ok. i have these compnents....

Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800
Corsair TwinX XMS2 4 x 512mb DDR-667
XFX Nvidia 7900 GTX Extreme
Asus P5N32- SLI SE Deluxe

I want to Overclock but my Mobo is giving trouble alot, so i want to get a new one, but i dont know what to get to be able to OC effectively, and i have basicly no experience with overclocking, can anyone help me?

Striker X is a gud board, but not really necessary unless u going sli. Get any P35 chipset boards like the GA-P35-DS3R Gigabyte, well worth the tom

I prefer the NVIDIA chipsets, personally...

And the Striker Extreme has LEDs on the motherboard, I mean come on how cool is that! :D

I'd actually recommend the P5N-E SLi because I know it to be an outstanding motherboard.

id like to have an Nvidia chipset, i may be looking for a 2nd 7900 in the future, or maybe other cards in sli, who knows

I think im going to get the P5N-E SLi, but i still need help to overclock,

How do you know it's your mobo, have you checked to see what the max for your motherboard, RAM and CPU are individually? If you haven't then you don't know that it's you mobo and you might end up buying a new one for nothing.

There is an issue with that board and 4 sticks of ram

either get 2x 1GB chips, or lower the ram speed to 533.

I had to lower my RAM from 800 to 667 when I added my second 2GB pair.

Striker apparently has the same issue.

buy a gigabyte mobo, those mobo oc well and just look quality, asus board always look cheap :)

The four broken Gigabyte boards in my possession say otherwise. I'm sure they are better these days, but I'm punishing them for selling rubbish in previous years.

All 3 my ASUS boards are still going strong

the board i have right now is stuffed. OK... im getting the new asus.... I need help OC'ing

I use nTune to OC my gfx card... could somebody help to get the settings as default (this means that when i restart my pc, i want the OC to be there already, instead of me having to load the profile the whole time)

To get your 3D card to be overclocked at default (before it even gets into windows, or any OS) you would need to flash it with a modified BIOS that sets it's speeds to the ones you want. But unless you know what you're doing the risk isn't worth it. You could try RivaTuner to apply the speeds you want when windows starts.

Noone can tell you what setting to change to get the max overclock for your system, because one X6800 will not always overclock as well as the next X6800, same for RAM and mobo. Someone could give you the settings to crank it up by a X-MHz but if it's to much your mobo will no longer post and if it's to little there's no point.

You're going to have to do it yourself, but you're going to have to grasp some theory and go through trial and error to get the max for your components.

A good place to get started is to check the forums for your mobo, many boards have strange quirks that they will be able to tell you about, like FSB holes your board might be known to have and so on.

There are tons of forum dedicated to this, Google or this could get you started.
