So...I had a big freakking rant about WhatsApp message delays in Off Topic today. Someone replied saying that Android is not well known for its great push functionality. I got curious and started doing some more investigating myself. It turns out to be true. Google only made push available in Android 2.2!!!!!!!!!!!! No wonder WhatsApp is sht on my phone. They propably have not had time yet to implement the newly made available C2DM service into their Android WhatsApp client. I am pissed off with them anyway...cause they dont say that WhatsApp is not really push on Android.

Apple IOS was the only phone OS that supported this really untill Android 2.2 came along. How can this be? And my freakking gmail is still taking forever to come through on my phone. Setting up a Corp Sync sorted that out previously....but it drains your battery like a SOB.

Google....the whole point of having email and IM clients on a phone is so that you get it instantly....not fcking 30 - 60 minutes after it landed up on the donderse fcking server dammit!

What the hell are you doing on android 2.1?

Nee man. I am on 2.2 now....but I would suspect that WhatsApp have not yet implemented the new Android push services into their client. It is things like this that is making me miss BBM and Email on my Blackberry *sigh* It just worked. With WhatsApp on Android I get messages 30 - 40 minutes after it was sent. Only if I am actively using WhatsApp do I get messages instantly. It sucks balls.

Never had that sort of issue with whatsapp on 2.2. Are you not running a task killer of some sort?

I dont have problems with Google Talk or Email, so must be something about Whatsapp.

Not using it and not planning to do so in future.

You miss a message from a hot girl?

I dont know anymore. Nothing seems to actually get pushed to my phone Ellie-Mental. My emails takes forever to come throuhg (gmail app)..have tried the other email app that comes pre-installed and have tried k-9 mail also. So with WhatsApp being unreliable as it is and my email not getting pushed no matter what I do...I am losing faith a bit in Android I have to say. All the other things it does very well...except the most important thing...my messaging stuff. *sigh*

I dunno what the problem is, my gmail gets pushed to my phone instantly, I get my whatsapp messages as they are sent to me.

(HTC Desire, Android 2.2)

I dont freakking understand it. We on the same Android version and yet I am having these problems. The only diff I can think of is that mine is a moto yours a Taiwan turd...but the software is basically the same so there should not be a difference with these two services should there? ...... kidding about the turd part hehe

Strange indeed. Still using my rooted hero (on 2.2), and both gmail and whatsapp are pretty much instant. I normally get my mail on my phone before my laptop pics it up.

Well I'm having similar problems with my Desire, (Android 2.2). Tho its only with WhatsApp, my Gmail is pushed just fine.

I don't get why the hardware would make a difference though? Hey OC?

Do you have Juice Defender, or ANYTHING at all like that that could be killing your data connection?

Are you running off 3G or Wi-fi? Is the slow delivery on both 3G and Wi-fi?

No....no battery safer is installed (appart from the default one but that is also switched off). Data saving mode is also turned off.

I agree...hardware should not make a difference...well, when it comes to phones and PC's anyway hehe.....but something is obviously not lekker. I have read in the gmail app reviews in the market that there are some others also with problems with receiving mails late...but they dont say what phone they are using.

I've given up on WhatsApp. Having problems with the late delivery of messages on three different devices. Not reliable ... and a service like this must be reliable.

Same here. My Gmail comes through instantly, as does my work Exchange email when the data connection is active. In fact my phone will sometimes beep before my laptop does with a new mail. It must be Whatscrapp.

hahahaha....now get a load of this. Just opened a yahoo mail account...downloaded the yahoo app from market.....IT WORKS A DREAM! Instand delivery my china's. How is it that the email service of the company that designed and brought Android to life cant get their email working properly on their own OS? Now, I know that you guys dont seem to have the same problem as me...but I know there are others that are having the same problems from reviews on the market for the gmail app. tsk tsk tsk.

But do I really now wanna switch email accounts again? bleh.
