Off the grid - Cancel Eskom - How to ?

When going off grid, can you cancel eskom service in total ? Meaning, no service fees, nothing ?
 
Depending on your muni, may be impossible, as they'll still ding you for provision of service.

Eg I pay for rubbish collection on my plot even though I don't use it.
Can't not pay.

nothing on my prepaid.
i still get a municipal bill which is rates and taxes and some other stuff.
But nothing linked to electricity at all
 
CoCT still charges a service fee which is recalculated when you next recharge. I.e. it adds up over time.

Ok nice. I need to move to prepaid then, my COJ fees are like R530 a month currently which is just ridiculous.

I pay R250 a month in rates & taxes and thats it on my municipal bill.
live in a complex so my levies must be added, about R800 a month then that includes, water, rubbish, building insurance, security and outside maintenance of building etc

I pay just over R3000 a month for Rates and Taxes (including connection fees etc.). So that is 3 grand before I use 1 drop of water or 1 watt of electricity.

So if I can get rid of the R530 electricity connection fees that will be a win.

i was forced to 2 yrs ago by the municipality in Somerset West.
The entire Cape Town was changing everyone over for free in certain months. My month was September 2017.
So i grabbed the opportunity to do it, installation is about 2hrs and all done quick n easy.

Had i not done it then then you have to pay for it. Not sure how much but i remember it was just under 2 grand when i asked them
 
just found the email, R1157.90 for installation of a pre paid meter, dated 3rd October 2017
I was 1 month late but they slid my application through as i was very very nice to them in my email correspondence :)

yup i think you are right there as i am currently paying R2.10 per kilowatt.
Very expensive but luckily i only use 160 units a month

nope, people run out often and then just top it up again when they get the chance.
My ex ran out often and when i reloaded for her it all appeared legit and stuff, no penalties

I've been paying R150 per month for a while now.

Same as the Water Connection fee every month.

Or are you talking about something else?
 
In Cape Town there is definitely a connection fee per month on prepaid no matter whether you use it or not. It started a few months ago.
