Actually a bleeping sound in game would be pretty funny. They should try it.

Another mommy in denial...

What the ASA should worry about is what "bollocks" and "sod off" mean to to people. Australians use those 2 words regularly, whereas in the UK it's offensive. Bollocks to me is an alternative word to Sh*t.

Perhaps we should have a poll as to what that ad actually said to people. To me, for example, the phrase "Get your bollocks down to Musica" means: "Kry jou drolle af na Musica"

EDIT: Reminds me of a show on Five-FM's Fresh drive where they had a discussion about Afrikaans lyrics and the lack of thought that goes into them. Example: "Oe, ek wil huistoe gaan, na mamma toe" -Kurt Darren, translates to "Oh, I want to go home, to my mommy" :p

Amatuer marketeers still think offending people is the best form of advertising. It happens when they run out of clever real ideas.

Marketeer1: "Aw crappo, I really need to draw brand attnetion, but I am soo tired today"
Marketeer2: "I know what you mean, in between running legal spam campaigns, and screwing up online gaming, and contributing towards consumerism which has had direct impacts on the environment, I am really tired."
Marketeer1: "I know, lets just piss people off, that will draw attention"
Marketerr2: "But dont we do that already being so 'in your face' with everything we do"
Marketeer1: "True, but I really want to insult peoples intelligence, just to see how far I can take it."
Marketeer2: "Why dont you just swear at them."
Marketeer1: "Good idea"

And so the sony campaign was born.

Marketing budget: several million
Original ideas: 0
Brain cells involved: 2
Turning people against your brand: Priceless

I keeps on reading meerkaters! Damn that Mo!!

I know of at least one game (GoW) that lets you filter out "extreme content". It would surprise me if this was the only such game.
Eat my torpedo! *Bleep*

Games have age restrictions: why don't folks take responsibility for their own sh#t?

BTW. Bollocks and sod off are >invariably< said as a joke. It is not the language it is the sentiment behind it. It is always/usually FUNNY!

//And FFS if you are "above" the age and are 'upset' with the language I advise a little education! Or don't buy (play or interact with) the product in the first place!

alan's a mommy?
No man..:p Mrs Lynn Zachariades is a mommy. Her 17-yo daughter probably comes home at 03:00 every Saturday morning from "studying at a friend's place..female friends place...missing underwear..which she threw away due to the hygienic issues with Woolworths panties"

It's all based on the typical SA poppycock mentality, the same one that states that Harry Potter is evil, everything you don't understand is satanic and the government is doing a awesome job, oh hum!!!

I can't see why they have to resort to Bollocks and sod off to get the message through. They could convert the same message and at the same time also get the support from the people that they are p!ssing off at the moment.

My problem with the ads that are aired nowadays in peak time is nudity and language with kids watching. I can stop my kids from watching programs with age restrictions, but there is no way of knowing in advance when the ads (which should be age restricted) will be aired in between programs that are not age restricted.

As far as swearing in games is concerned, you should play F.E.A.R and is guarenteed that even mature men will learn a couple of new swear words. The game is rated 18, but could still have been played by younger people if only there was a option to turn of the swearing. The blood and gore can be turned of, but not the swearing. It doesn't make sense to me.

ROFL @ kilo.
alan, what games?

Plenty. I'm sure google can help you out ;). An example would be Armed Asault which was the last game I played.

I don't recall many having that option. Basically I would like just to have the option to remove swearing and a separate one for gore or whatever. The reasoning being is when there are youngsters running around outside I don't exactly feel comfortable having them hear various swear word emanating from my flat. Don't like headphones and frankly I'm not a fan of pointless cussing although ashamedly I'm guilty of it myself sometimes.

Right, I was just wondering if the use of offensive language distracts you while you're shooting people?

Yeah it does. I'm a lot less likely to shoot if you if you don't swear at me

In that case, bleeping out the swearing may not be an optimal strategy.
