Here are a select few. Agent is terrible at taking photos. In fact he didn't even take photos of the garages, carports, other 2 bathrooms or the other 2 bedrooms.
We would gladly take photos when we are in.

Bar is staying but neither of us really drink. So thinking about making it a coffee bar. Or later on just remove it and make better use of the space. But we quite like it for now.

Yes! Get rid of that ugly bar. Get an awesome espresso machine and burr grinder. Connect a tap with water filter.

Flippen awesome coffee.

For sure! Can't wait to switch over to a proper gas stove.

House already has a little 2 plate gas hob installed. But I am going to buy a proper 5 burner Gas/Electric Stove before we move in and get it installed immediately.
 
Good, we did a seperate gas hob and eye level electric oven. Just stay away from Defy. Nearly blew the house due the safety features stopped working. Got a SMEG now.

Galley style kitchen. My initial response is wanting to find a way of opening it up to the house...
 
Recently also switched over from electric stove top to a gas one. Still getting the feel of it but so far so good. What was interesting was the difference in prices from installers. Definitely worth getting 3 people to come quote. We had a R5k swing between installers for the same thing. Ended up with a Bosch hob.

Wife isn't a fan of open plan kitchens. She dislikes seeing people in the kitchen while sitting in the lounge. I don't mind at all either way, and seeing as I am the one doing all the cooking in the house it might just be my call.

The kitchen does however walk into two of the living areas so would be one wall to open it up a bit.

Luckily I am indirectly in the construction industry and many of my clients specialise in gas and solar installations. One or two of them do owe me some favours over the years. So I reckon I can get away with the installation at a pretty good price.

Had small talk with one of them at the office last week and he says he can easily do a full cage with two-bottle installation for about R1.5k. I have no idea if that is a good price or the average price. Will gather all that info and prices in coming weeks/month.

Got a Bosch 4 plate gas hob from Hyper for R2300
9 Kg bottle for R600 (deposit + gas)
Regulator - R120
Pipes & clamps - R50
9Kg gas has lasted since January
Bottle is in a cupboard

Fitted it in 30 mins (dipped pipe in hot water to get it onto regulator and hob adaptor)

Not something I would DIY but yes can be done. Also didn't want the bottles inside. For us a lot of the cost was the requirement to have stainless steel piping for it to run in the roof space which was costly. Has to do with being able to burn for at least 2 hours before rupturing.

Agreed... I think my bill was around 4k for an install without bottles.... And it was the best quote.

Ours was R7.5k with a cage for 2x19kg bottles but like I said the piping in the roof space was the "issue".

Piping is always the issue.. My piping was in the slab... Thankfully I had conduit put in the slab for it.
 
Next step in progress...

All documents submitted to bond originator for approval from banks. Says we can expect an answer as soon as tomorrow.

Hoping our own bank FNB comes back with the best rate. Purely for the eBucks benefits.

Is it worth it to try and ask bond originator to fight for a better rate at our preferred bank if we don't get it in the first options? Or is it not really possible? What can we even do/say that will make them give a better deal?

Speaking from a tiny townhouse perspective, I NEED an open plan kitchen.
That way I can chat with whoever is in the livingroom/dining room while cooking, as well as watch TV, if it opens up into the livingroom.
 
Many years ago my preferred bank (at that time) was convinced to give me a better rate after FNB offered me a better rate (and I had no existing account at FNB so they were trying to get my business I guess). The bond originator convinced my preferred bank to match it, so yes, ask your bond originator by all means to push your preferred bank. It all depends on how hard-up your preferred bank is to keep your business.
