Offer to purchase question

I am looking at a house that was built out of what looks like to be plaster bricks, but they never plastered it, basically treated it as facebrick. Either that or it is just one ugly and rough brick. I can imagine this would have attracted a lot of moisture. Is it still possible to seal it and plaster it or better to avoid?

It's a pity that I overpaid them with R790.72. That's because my settlement figure on the last payment did not take into account their debit order the next day. Will pull it out soonest.
Whoa, care to share your secret in how you managed to pay off a 20 year homeloan in 3 years and change? Did you sell another property? Dump massive bonuses in? Get a joining bonus with the ANC?

A bit of everything, I dump whatever money I find lying about into my bond, even if I pick up a 10c coin in the street, it goes in. I also drink Frisco, and don't have Netflix.

Mmm still seems like an excessive outcome purely from coffee and Netflix savings hey. You’re entitled to your secrets, just curious if you have actually figured out where your biggest extra contributions came from.

I did make one or two sound investments.

And so it goes. Poor people can come out of poverty just by working harder, and you too can pay off your 20 year mortgage in only three years by only drinking Frisco and forgoing Netflix … only neither is actually completely true. *shrugs* Congrats dude, whatever your investments were they clearly paid off big time!

I mean if forgoing Netflix is accompanied by some shrewd investments…

You show me an investment that will return R1 million in only three years for only Netflix’s R100/month subscription as an investment. I’m in! Sign me up for five.
Some of the crypto would have done it.

But it is hard to say before the time. Investments in general are a matter of luck.

It really wasn't a big loan to begin with, I chose a very modest property. That same mindset was applied to the way that I chose to live, drinking Frisco and not having Netflix are but some of my choices, all are indicators of frugality. For example I also drive a 12 year old vehicle. All of these things add up, so I had cash over at the end of the month, which I religiously pumped into my bond. I don't understand what is so unbelievable to you.

Why it’s unbelievable to me is I understand basic maths, and I know that R100/month on Netflix and even R100/month on coffee (the difference between Frisco and Jacobs), you have not even come 10% of the way of paying off a property north of R1 million in only three years. R200/month is nothing compared to whatever you actually did, but you decided to mention those for some curious reason. It’s like a professional runner saying they prepared for the Comrades through positive thinking, and not mentioning the daily 10km runs they did for a year. I just believe in a bit of perspective is all. A positive narrative which is not based on all the facts is a fairytale.

The secret is as follows:
1. Work out how much you need to prepay the bond, and stick with that. I paid my first house off in 5 years.
2nd rule...

Buying a house and not having a partner to make it a home with you ... is a bit sad. Also you can find a girlfriend who contributes her end financially rather than being a drain on your finances.

Is paying a house off so fast always good? It only makes financial sense IF the other investments you might have had over the same period deliver a lower interest rate than the interest you're paying on your homeloan. Otherwise, if my maths is right, you should just keep paying off the homeloan over a longer period and put your 'extra' money to work on enhancements or other investments, right?

It all depends. If its your primary house, pay it asap off. If a rental property, you don’t need to rush paying it off.

Let your money work for you. Use sars and banks towards your favor

I love Frisco.
We have something in common. Come over to the lunch and breakfast thread.
