Yesterday, a forumite reported that Sandton Square was buzzing with Tourists and All South Africans were waving flags and that the atmosphere was intense.
The spanking new Gautrain Sandton City to OR Thambo Airport shuttle service opened to the General Public and with much fanfare as over 11,000 South Africans opened their wallets for a ride. Some Tourists enroute from the airport to Sandton were spotted sitting on their luggage too . The opening of this engineering masterpiece of mass transportation made world headline news. Locals are waiting for school holidays to gather up the family and make an outing to the airport and back. Such excitement over mass transportation has not been witnessed since perhaps the 1952 arrival of the Comet at Johannesburg’s Palmieterfontein Field—surrounded by 20,000 spectators.
The Football festive atmosphere notches up a few gears with the arrival of some 20,000 UK fans today.
Absolutely no crimes against tourists have been reported.

Jola this is a good news thread dude.

Let's stick to the format. Carpet sweeping type effort dude.

Go bafana you beauties!!!!!!! World cup fever is going to be huge!!!!!!

Does that include Journalists ? So far five of those have been subject to armed robberies, in two separate incidents.

 Oh no.. here we go again.. Of course there will be some incidents.. do you expect the entire world cup to be 100% crime free?

You own me royalties!

Does theft of ideas count as world cup crime?

Capetonians were greeted by a beautiful, crisp winter morning and scenes of shops, cafes and garages decorating with flags. Traffic light businesses are thriving and everyone seems to be in a good mood.

Schools are out and there is a festive ambience wherever you go, world cup soccer fever is increasing in momentum by the minute as more and more people get into the spirit of hosting this great extravaganza.

The sound of vuvuzelas are intermittently heard as supporters practice blowing the big blow for the winning goals, people are positive, excited and ready to show the world that Africans know how to have a good time and that we are welcoming hosts to our friends from all over the world.

Saw a bunch of tourists enjoying a good castle this morning on sky news:)

wonders to self: Is a killer-doob like some sort of killer clown?

It's been reported in the media today that Former State President Nelson Mandela will indeed make a short visit to the opening ceremonies at Soccer City on Friday.
