See here for the MacRumors story – it has just been released.

Give us some feedback, those who take the plunge. :)

[Edit]:

Appears it's only available now for Office365 users. The standalone version is only going to be available in September, if I'm understanding everything correctly...

The preview on OS X was dreadful - especially Excel. The latest preview update was on 24th June, so I am surprised that they already released the production version.

We're still on Exchange 2007 at work and Outlook is a no-go for anything under 2010.

Might upgrade the rest of the apps though.

Currently downloading it. Thank goodness for an educational institution email address. Free Office 365.

Just downloaded and installed. This version looks slightly different then the beta from 24th June - have not tried out much though. Office365 has been the best purchase for the family though.

Anyone know what date it would be released? Noted that the Windows version had an error with connecting with iCloud. Sort of a huge pain in the rear area.

I think it has been released months ago - I have been running the full version for at least 6 weeks - was a simple Office365 download via my Office365 account.

I know you can get the 365 version. But I have clients that do not want to buy a subscription as they have a MS agreement to get the software.
It is a academic environment so 365 is not going to work. Tell 5000 staff members that they need to pay R799 or what ever per month out of their budgets...

I installed and ran the beta version a few months ago. No issues besides the need to update it every so often before I could continue using it (which was an issue when stuck in remote Africa).

I've been using it for a month or two. Excel works fine. Word on the otherhand, is giving me die spinning wheel randomly when I type. I've reverted back to 2011 Word for documents. Interesting part, I haven't used PowerPoint yet.

Academic/Educational Discount Program not an option?

Contrary to what I have read on many forums about the problems users experienced with Office 2016 for Mac, I can honestly say that I have not had a single problem (no crashes, no spinning beachball, no connection issues with Outlook, etc). I installed it somewhere in April, updated when updates became available, I use Outlook, Excel and Word everyday and have not experienced any issues. Just two days ago I found out that I qualify for the University edition, for two Macs at the price of one, for R750.00. I was going to wait for the standalone release and use the upgrade path from 2011 to 2016, but hey, since I already had a running copy, and the advantage of the substantial discount, the University option was unbeatable. The process was painless and one day after purchasing I was able to register the existing installation online. So, Office 2016 is now activated and the purchase is valid for four years.

I guess all of this sounds just too easy. I am hoping there is no catch.
