I see Office 2016 is dropping 22 September - will hopefully see the release of the standalone Mac version then, too.

The VL version of Office 2016 for Mac is already out. It works like the 365 version but doesn't require activation or a product key. Amazingly, it's made like that by Microsoft and worked like this even for the 2011 version. Needless to say, links are available on Google. This almost the same as the standalone version but without need for the aforementioned product key/activation.

Not sure the focus fell on the Mac VL at all. With the release of Windows 10 and all the work to get the systems up to date.

I'm still surprised that Microsoft released Office 2016 for the Mac before the Windows versions, never mind that they still went and made a VL version.

Got my Office 2016 for Mac HUP today. Going to try and download it tonight.

Enjoy. Been checking my institution's HUP for ages now - still only offering Office for Mac 2011. Phoned Microsoft - thinking they could tell me when 2016 might be available - to be told my IT department needs to acquire the license for 2016 first... Not sure if that's going to happen anytime soon...

I've been using it for a month or two. Excel works fine. Word on the otherhand, is giving me die spinning wheel randomly when I type. I've reverted back to 2011 Word for documents. Interesting part, I haven't used PowerPoint yet.

I have had this problem with Excel as well, but only after upgrading from Yosemite to El Capitan. The Excel file is not even complex by any means, just an annual budget with sheets per month and a summary sheet. I am sure the few gremlins that I have had somehow have more to do with the OS upgrade than with the Office application(s).

There's a huge update out for Office 2016.

Anyone know where I can get the downloads for 2016. I tried the update route, but had no luck with the download.... Seems to bomb out even though it reports complete, then does nothing...

Apologies for jumping in – but how are things going now with El Cap and MS 2016 – specifically Outlook? Have things calmed down – saw plenty of chatter over on MacRumors about problems?

Wife's bread and butter – so have been holding off until things appear to have stabilised.

What's the opinion out there – go for it, or wait until the .1 OSX release?

I'm using Office for Mac 2016 on El Capitan with no noticeable issues.

Same here. I don't want to be seen gloating about my success but I cannot understand the issues people seem to have with either MS Office or EC, or both. Maybe I am just lucky but my updates run like a breeze, downloads are quick and I have had no freezes, lockups and spinning wheels except for an occasional glitch with Word. Some have reported that the latest patch for EC can be problematic - both my MacBooks updated perfectly and are running fine. I am not doing anything technically superior to what anyone else would do in order to run updates.

Then again, each perfect paradise has a serpent waiting to strike...

Ja. I'm a new Mac user, having only climbed aboard with OSX Lion. But each OS update since then (including every iOS, come to think of it) has been virtually flawless my side as well.

2 things saw me hesitate this time. 1 was reading that people were having issues with Mac MSO Outlook 2016. I don't really use it, finding Mail.app to be sufficient. But my wife relies heavily on it. She only came over to Mac, at my insistence a few months back. My biggest selling point was how stable it was, not eating up time with constant updates and slow-down issues, that so often besets Windows. So I have been particularly careful in when to update, since I'm hoping to dodge spinning beachballs as much as possible!

Secondly, just haven't had the time yet! ;)

The only issues I have are with Outlook. It's generally ok but every now and then it freezes or crashes or just refuses to connect to gmail. Sadly, the Android version of Outlook is doing the same on my Nexus 6.

Just letting you know that there is an update out for office 2016

Thanks - will have a looksie. Updated Mini without issues - will swing things 1st on my MBP, and check things with Outlook etc., following the update - and then make a call on the wife's machine.
