I was wondering what is the best office suite for mac osx?

I have the chance of buying Microsoft office for a reasonably good price, (R599)

Is microsoft office worth it to buy or not?

Regards

office 2011 for mac will be available soon and includes outlook. so better save your money now and wait. but to answer your question, I find ms office the best office suit there is.

if you buy office 2008 after 1 Aug (which you clearly would be) you will be able to upgrade to Office 2011 for free - so can't see why you should not buy it now. See http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/Office2008/office-2011-upgrade.mspx . Agreed with previous comment that sadly MS Office is still the best, 2011 is actually pretty good - I've been using the beta versions for the last three months and it's a huge step up from 2008.

i have been finding openoffice tedious, thats why i ask.

But thanks guys!

@redcliff how do you get the beta version? or is it closed now?

Yes, IMHO iWork is far better, however, it is a very steep learning curve, and most people are turned away from iWork because they are unfamiliar. If you have the time and patience iWork is better, but if you are familiar with office already, then the above suggestion of getting office and doing a free upgrade is better.

Actually I found it more simple than Office. For example I never bothered to figure out styles for Word, but I learned how to do it in Pages and it's a great tool. If you're an MS Office expert however a few things may seem different.

edit: for actual editing of MS Office documents with full accuracy and compatibility, Office is obviously better than iWork.
