Wow at last I can play. Loaded up BO yesterday and another little update. I kept that little thing called hope shoved way down (call it experience) as I connected to our public server. Boom! 600 ping and a ever so slight sag in my shoulders. I started playing with the config ingame and the very first thing I tried, that is, setting back the maxpackets to 30, I immediately saw my ping start to go down. Set it back to 100 and up goes the ping again. I guess it has something to do with slow connections (384kbs) and that setting, but if you still experience high latency issues, i would suggest trying to drop maxpackets.
I also experimented with different ISP's. With Telkom to our CPT server it is impossible to play with 999 ping spikes. Due to the domestic peering battle no doubt. Afrihost is 100 ping, which is playable, but I wouldn't advise it, while mweb is a solid 60-80 ping. Still a bit high, but until I upgrade my line that will do very nicely.
There are also known issue with Radeon cards. There is a setting in the catalyst control center called A.I catalyst. Disabling that, while not entirely fixing crashes, drastically reduced it on my side. So, though I won't get nearly as excited as with the initial patch, I will move forward with a little less skepticism.
