Official Black Ops Discussion Thread

@ peanut - Much of a muchness. Do you have uncapped? Because it is like a 8GB (I think) download.

@ blizzard - why do you have port forwarding setup? Also, check your firewall to make sure there is nothing blocking it. Everyone gets those errors, but INTERMITTENTLY only.

Maybe try buying a 1gb account from another ISP and see what happens.. rule out the ISP. I'm on MWEB 4mb uncapped and no pronlems though.
 
some1 started clanies yet? really wane know what new rules and format is gona be.
 
Not as far as I know. The problem with Black Ops is that you cannot choose which side you are on, so how are you going to play a clannie????

Just a note out of pure frustration: I am thinking of kicking campers off my server... :) They frustrate the crap out of me!

@JoeSlaughter - kick them!!!! code is against kicking people...

But seriously, DSW has figured out how to turn off perks and attachments in a ranked server... I'm going to look into it. They also say that if your ping is above 150ms, they will kick you and as such, gameplay is relatively smooth. No laggers pinging the servers.

Played a bit of hardcore last night... No skill in camping. Just sit with your back to a wall, claymore and wait for people to run past... Flakjacket pro and stuns and flashes have a lesser effect on you.

Dont want to start kicking left right and centre, but there was one or two guys on the IRF server yesterday that REALLY frustrated me! If it were the Q server they would have been gone! Kicked with reason "inactivity". :)

If you find out anything give me a shout (I think I have you on my friends list?) Especially if you can find out whether switching teams is possible!
 
I'm sure on an unranked server you can choose teams... But on ranked, it will probably always be auto assign. Promod and the likes will probably be played on unranked servers. Although I have seen strange things happen, like 11 vs 7... That's just not cool... Especially in snd...

If I find anything out, I'll let you know

With my lag that's the only way I can play :(
 
Neverwhere - the thing is, i shouldn't have to do that. theoretically, i should have the best connection as i am with mweb.
JoeSlaughter - many people - including mweb told me i need port forwarding set up for certain ports for black ops to work - do you have a static ip or obtain automatically.
also, pertaining to firewalls, what do you mean? i have no windows firewall and as far as i know freeavg has no firewall, i do have a standard router firewall and an isp firewall - could those be the problem?
the "Steam connect failed" error occurs after a few seconds, every time i go on to a server. could it be throttling from my shaped line? surely not though. should i try re-installing the game? no-one seems to know why this is happening - very frustrating, as i have had the game for over two weeks now.
 
those private games, wonder how the lag on those wil be...

campers!!! hate em, mostly those guys camping for choper gunners getting a 40/2 kd. cough volklol
 
Treyarch!!!! please!!!! fix the ping spike to 999 issue!!!!!
That is the only issue I currently have.
Played last night at got 18-4, and that's with the ping spike of 1-2min. Luckily did not get disconnected.

Looks like getting higher K/D in BO is easier for me than it was in MW2

Excuse me if I jump in here. I have a Netgear wireless router and none of my ports have been configured. I do not get those errors.

AVG free has no firewall. Windows does, but if you can connect even once, that would mean that there are no port blocks. I would suggest deleting the config file or cutting it from the "Players" directory (if you want a backup) and loading the game again. This will create a fresh file. Baby steps...

If I'm not mistaken, you are with Telkom? If you are, it would be them your wrath should be directed at. ;)

That happens to me as well but only with local servers, if your with telkom its easier to play on international servers.

I'm not against kicking. There was a guy called Gl1ch on Joe's Q server last night which abused a player from [PUMP], because he thought he was hacking. I watched the demo (or "Film" as it is now called) and the [PUMP] player is definitely legit. He has some mean "roam camper" skills. I would've banned that noob (Gl1tch) from my server for all eternity, never mind kicking him.

We are quite a small community and if you start kicking players left and right, people will just swarm to the servers where they have more freedom. Kicking for camping is, in my opinion, extreme. There ARE nice noobs out there too and they are welcome to be pwned by me whilst sitting in a corner.

Yeah bud. I know. With great power comes great responsibility... And yeah. People swearing, lagging and generally causing trouble should be kicked... Sorry about the laggers being included, but heck, R80 pm for 3gb on mweb isn't a bad deal. If you can't afford that, then you should be working harder and not playing games at all... Imo
 
man i played lekker yesterday , was also acused of camping lmao !! in the meantime i just planted a clay for the idiot to walk past . first time in two weeks since i enjoyed the game . gg treyarch . im sure the person(s) responsible for releasing half a game to the pc community have been dealt with.

I get the disconnects every now and then, but only in the first 5min of play. BTW I am also with Mweb uncapped. Maybe try enable your UPNP on yout router. That port forwarding confuses me, and I followed the instructions on www.portforward.com - that did not resolve anything. Not to mention how do you forward the same port (3074) to two pc's on the lan?
