OMG! A lurker awakens! Welcome, mate. :)

P.S - Tell you what. When Telkom decides that free peering is the way forward and I can get 4mb uncapped at the same price as DSTV, things would start making sense to me. Until such time, I'm willing to give you ping rapers the advantage, as it just forces my uber micro up a notch or two.

So uhm, when did line speed determine ping? That's utter crap from what I've read/heard.

Back to BO discussion now guys, I don't want to derail this thread in my first couple of posts...

Negative mate.

0.384mbps will never ping as well as 4.096mbps. Cmd is a good way to test connectivity and ping, but isn't a true reflection on reality.

Pingtest.net will give you a better indication. But bottom line is when I do a speedtest.net test with telkom isp from my 4mbps line to capetown I get a 15ms ping. Same test with the same isp on a 384 line and it averages at 56-65ms...

Check it out if you aren't sure...

Yeah, I have noticed that as well, 4mb lines get better ping times than 384...

Anywho, have you guys tried Wager - OIC? It is epic fun, but it does chow your COD point if you dont come 1st, 2nd or 3rd. :D
 
I agree on speedtest yes the ping is better but ATM a faster line doesn't constitute less lag in BO.
The problem is in the way the game utilizes the hardware ie CPU, GPU, network etc.(thats were all the tweaks come in) as soon as thats sorted ping wont really make that much of a difference as were using local traffic, (unless your on telkom) I have played on some servers were the ping stays sub 60 on a 384 line, but the lag is still present then i play at work on a 4meg line with just the same amount of lag

What do you guys think of the theatre mode. I watched a few games I played... And I think in the not too distant future I'm going to watch Volklol and I R n008 as these guys have insane kdr's... Volklol is like 2.3 or something... 12500 kills and 5000 odd deaths...

But it is a cool feature.
 
Here's a nice analogy I found online regarding the latency/bandwidth issue...

Being on Telkom's backbone one can only imagine how congested our highways are. ;)
 
I'm not so sure it is the congestion on the highways that's the problem, but rather the ridiculous speed limits imposed on us... In international terms we are the small scooters riding in the yellow lane staying out of the way of the 'big' cars... ;)

I played against him last night (Volklol) he is pretty skilled man! He was 30/4 or something like that! WTF???
 
Yeah... That's what I'm talking about... Always in the right place at the right time... So I want to see what his secret is ;)
 
I looked at his ping and it was more or less the same as everyone else's. sometimes more sometimes less... if you know what I mean! :)
