Pietermaritzburg - A transport department employee will face the full wrath of the law, after he was allegedly caught speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol for the second time.

Jay Naidoo, who works in the cost department, was allegedly caught driving a BMW 5 series at 203km/h on the South Coast N2 on Sunday.

He was also allegedly three times over the legal limit for alcohol.

It’s not the first time that Naidoo, who lives in Port Shepstone, has been in trouble for speeding while driving drunk.

On December 30 last year, Naidoo was caught driving at 181km/h and was four times over the legal limit in a Toyota Corolla. He was fined R22 000.

The 46-year-old made a brief appearance in the Scottburgh court on Monday and must return to court on December 1. He is free on R5 000 bail.

Transport department spokesperson Bhekisisa Mncube said the department wants to send a strong message to motorists who drink and drive, as well as speed, that they will spend time in jail.

Mncube said the department would also look into suspending Naidoo’s licence as he is a repeat offender.

So how do you drive at 203 km/h at 3 times the legal limit and survive - and why are they only ' considering ' 'suspending ' the licence -after previously driving at FOUR times the legal limit at a speed of 181 km /h ?

That is the part that bothers me. Too many innocent people die on our roads every year because of fools like this thinking that it is ok to drink and drive
