Also glad if all this is over now.
I'm a little sceptical of our striking options that are left though.

1 Oldie but goldie
1 Torres (Enough said)
 
Actually the more I look at the squad the less convinced I am in us this season tbh.
We haven't really strengthened that much imo. F Luis is a straight swap for Cole.
Costa is a swop for Eto and Ba.
Courtois is maybe slightly better than Cech.
Fabregas is competiton for Oscar.

Doesn't really feel to me like a massive difference to what we had last season tbh.
The fact that Mourinho has now had a season and the team together mostly is good though.

Luis being there now means Azpi can move into his preferred RB, he didn't give us an attacking edge at LB which Luis can do, he has a wicked cross on him.
How is Costa a swop for old Eto'o and an average Ba? I know it's only pre-season but Costa is making all the right moves. Fab will play deeper, he played in that number 10 today but he was better when he played deeper on the weekend next to matic, his passes are better suited there.


I will say this though that we need another striker, if Costa gets injured we right back to square one.

I'm unfazed about Lukaku anyway, didn't want to fight for a place so be it, or squad is better this season, not only because of our new acquisitions but all our other players also have that extra year experience.

Yeah, also feel we need another striker but I don't really see anybody worthwhile available.

Also, I think Ivanovich is going to keep the RB position.

Remy and Bony will just be another Ba for me. Then we might as well stick with the three we have I think.

Bertrand to Southampton on season loan.
 
Costa will have a good season with Chelsea, he has that attacking talent, however the physical approach of the EPL will make or break him but I think his 20000000 times better than Torres :)

Letting Lukaku go may come back to bite Chelsea this season... I guess when you a chop it's time to get chopped!

Sorry I didn't explain that. I did not mean they are the same type of players, just that like Ba, I think whichever one of them will just be sitting on the bench mostly. I don't think either of them had what it takes to be our no 1.

Agreed. Also glad he's gone now so we can move on. I really thought he could give Costa some good competition for the no 1 spot.

Highly doubt considering we have Torres (nuff said) and a 36 year old Drogba, I love the guy but he will be the one playing the Ba type role, the one where he comes on in the last 10 minutes to change the game. Remy or Bony or whatever will be at least 2nd on the pecking order.

Well, I'm kind of chuffed with Lukaku leaving- we've made a handsome profit on a player who had unrealistic expectations of his role.

I'm not too concerned about the three we have- Torres may not be a world beater anymore, but the season before last, he scored 23 goals for us. Drogba will probably score 10-15 at push, but a lot rides on Costa. I do have faith in JM keeping him as a 20-30 goal a season forward.

An interesting fact about Costa, is that he didn't score a single hat trick last season. Barring his final eight games of the season (which were disrupted by injury), he scored an impressive 34 goals in 38 games, while netting in 27 different games.

That's an impressive level of consistency.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says Romelu Lukaku's attitude was the reason he let the striker move to Everton.

The Belgium international completed a £28m transfer to the Toffees on Wednesday, the club he spent last season on loan at, but not before Mourinho offered his take on the situation.

"The thinking behind the move was the fact that Romelu was always very clear with us, in his mentality, in his approach, he was not highly motivated to come to a competitive situation at Chelsea," said Mourinho.

"He wanted to play for Chelsea but he wanted to be clearly the first choice striker, which in a club of our dimension, it is very difficult to promise to a player.

"That reduced immediately his desire to come to us. Everton came in with an important offer. It is the reality of our club that we want to do things really well and to always be inside the rules (of the Financial Fair Play regulations).

"Financial Fair Play is always behind the thoughts of the Chelsea board and when you have the chance to create a positive impact in Financial Fair Play, Chelsea always analyse these situations."

Mourinho was also keen to emphasise he has nothing against Lukaku and wished him well on his permanent move to Goodison Park for a club-record fee for Roberto Martinez's side.

"The important thing is he is happy and things work out for him. He is a good kid," added Mourinho.

"The only thing we can do is wish him well."
