What gets me is that we had a guy whose barely turned 17 ind efence and people were going on about the mistakes he made. ****, isn't that the point of giving him time with the first team in pre-season... to work out the chinks in his armour? Overall not a bad performance when judging the ages of players. Once AVB gets the entire first team playing regularly I'm sure they will be much better. I'm still excited.

I made a mistake. He's only turning 17 in December. quite an impressive display despite the two glaring errors. He's really being fastracked, just hope he doesn't get too despondant when he hits the inevitable wall. Still... with him and Josh making stride into the first team, and Ashley Cole saying that he doesn't mind being rested for younger players (one of Ryan bertrand or Pat Van Aanholt)... I reckon youth will feature a bit more prominently this season.

Yep that's what pre-season is supposed to be for... see who gels with the team and which of the youth can make that transition to starting XI level

Didn't watch the game, so not going to comment on it. But many people judge a teams performance on pre-season matches. A person should not judge a teams performance on pre-season. It is just used to test the waters and maybe some tactics. I don't think any team will willingly start with a 17yr old, if there was a more experience player.

Quick question: Who is this guy ?

Nathaniel Chalobah, 16 year old defender at Chelsea. Played his first game with the first team last year at the tender age of 15 (pre season as well). Headed the ball back twice missing Hilario, but first time he went and saved it despite a much stronger, much older striker to contend with. He's no Luk.aku (in terms of physique) but the raw talent of the lad is amazing. Known about him since he was 14 closing in on 15. Integral to Chelsea FA Youth Cup victory despite being among the youngest players in the tournament.

Barca will put a clause in the contract that will allow them to buy him back in 2013... If that is ture then that's nonsense... Might as well load the player then... What's the use of buying hm and lets say he becomes brilliant, only to let Barca buy him back again.

A buy back clause doesn't mean they automatically get to buy him back. It just means they have first dibs (as far as I'm aware).
 
Blues confirm Romeu deal
Barca starlet set for move

Chelsea have confirmed that they have agreed terms with Barcelona for Oriol Romeu.

Skysports.com revealed earlier this week that talks between the two clubs were ongoing over the highly-rated 19-year-old.

The teenager is now due in West London to undergo a medical and finalise the move, although he is currently on Under-20 World Cup duty with Spain.

Romeu has played for Barca's first-team but they have agreed to his sale after Andre Villas-Boas made his move.

It is believed a deal worth around £5million has been agreed between the two clubs.

"I don't want to speak too much about him because he is not our player," said Chelsea boss Villas-Boas.

"It is a part of the squad in which we are struggling with numbers because of Michael Essien's injury and Oriol is a player with a bright future. He still has to evolve as a player.

"The Barcelona B team had a magnificent year in the Spanish second division, they finished third. Oriol had an injury during the season but he came back late on and was in time to play for the first team.

"So he is one of the most promising young players in that position and hopefully we can agree personal terms and hopefully he will pass a medical."
Courtois

Meanwhile, Villas-Boas insisted that a deal to send new goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois - who is arriving from Genk - on loan to Atletico Madrid was not yet complete.

"It is also a question of time and of deciding where we think it is better for him to evolve as a player, in Spain or in another country,' the manager reported.

"The Spanish League is an extremely competitive league and Atletico is a great club to be at but it is not decided yet on his future.

"It is still a couple of days until we can confirm agreement between all three parties."

Same old same old. We put on 8 players with 30 minutes left, meaning we have fresh players while they didn't. AVB said it himself that it was the same type of play against Thailand only with more goals so it looks better. McEachran looked bloody good though.
 
So, pre season is done, Rangers smacked 3-1.

Sturridge scores twice.

Hopefully he is not loaned out and gets regular footie!
