The Special One
Only one saying he demanded to be nr one is Mourinho and you'll have to forgive me if I take whatever he says in the media with a truck load of salt.
That's fair. Lukaku did have this to say before the World Cup:
“You know Chelsea: every year they buy a new top striker. I remember me coming into the dressing room last year and seeing Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba and going: ‘Whoah! What’s happening here?’ But no problem. Many clubs are interested in me.”
“At this stage I have to look to myself. I have to play a good World Cup. That’s very interesting for all the players looking for a transfer, and I must be one of them. Chelsea know my point of view.”
So if Chelsea know his point of view, and they've expressed that point of view as him wanting to be guaranteed a spot, I'm fine in going with that. His actions corroborate that statement, anyway.
This doesn't translate to "I demand to be nr and or I leave", simply a guy who wants to play football imo.
It also sounds like a guy who prefers being a big fish in a small pond. As I said before, he didn't even attempt to fight for his spot at Chelsea. As he said, he did what was best for him. That's the sort of attitude that doesn't fit in at Chelsea. If he was really worthy of being our starting striker, he would have easily been able to earn that spot over the jokers we had up front last season. His comments indicate that he doesn't actually believe he will be a starter for us- and the only reason for that is because he doesn't feel that he is good enough.
Contrast his quotes with what Thibaut Courtois had to say, or even the actions of Schurrle and Azpilicueta last season, and it's pretty clear where the problem lies. He constantly talks about himself, not the team. He walked away from the opportunity to assert his position as the club's main striker.
But for Everton, they have struck gold- a wonderfully talented player that has done pretty well for them previously. Best of luck to them both.
