Money, apparently. Everton's new major shareholder is throwing a 100-pound war chest around.

First order of business though will be hanging on to Lukaku and Stones. At the least I suspect both Manchester clubs will be having a look at Stones.

100 million pounds is not that much nowadays, i can still see Everton being behind Southampton despite spending that. As you say will have to wait and see who goes and stays.

True, maybe it is also the perceived ambitions of the two clubs. Everton are looking to invest while the Saints are what can be best described as a selling club.

It became public knowledge a few months ago when Koeman hinted that he wants to be in full control of transfers or else he might need to look elsewhere for work. Benitez wanted the same from Newcastle before he signed the contract extension. Also, if you look at his career as a manager, he hardly gets to the 3rd year before he leaves, so many people are not too surprised, even though it is surprising.

Stones Departs In Record Deal

John Stones has joined Manchester City for a record transfer fee (£47.5m).

Stones arrived at Everton from Barnsley on transfer deadline day in January 2013 for £3million.

His Blues debut came in a League Cup win over Stevenage seven months later and, in total, he made 95 appearances for the Club, scoring one Premier League goal.
