Official Google Nexus 7 Thread

Just got a nexus 7 3g version, and find it strange that one cant activate it without a wifi connection, eventhough it has a 3g connection active.. anyway to bypass this?..

how many data wipes do you perform before you use it?, and if one needed to send it back, how many data wipes does one need to do, 2, 3? or is 1 enough

Multiple data wipes are not needed as far as I can tell.

I'm on my way to go get myself a OTG cable - I have a Huawei E1752 which will hopefully play nicely with the Nexus 7.

For those of you with some experience - form a practical point of view - which works better: the L-shaped cable or the normal straight one?

L-shaped
I had one first, then lost it
got the normal one and now prefer the L-shaped one

Thanks, why cant we bypass the initial setup if one doesnt have access to wifi at present?, since it is a 3g model, it shouldnt need this

Thanks! I got bought the L-shaped cable, it should work nicely. I'm now reading tutorials to root my Nexus 7, and from what I gather, rooting a device with a locked bootloader will wipe all my data. Is this correct?

Just received my N7 32GB 3G, very impressed, even though I had a N7 16GB before.

Android 4.2.1 compares with my iPad4 in smoothness, can't believe that the iPad Mini is a competitor.

Yip you will lose everything. Look here for easy root:

Choose I think option 8 for an all in one root, unlock bootloader + busybox

Can anyone running 4.2.1 Jellybean and has Friendcaster installed please confirm if friendcaster closes or goes to another menu when pressing back when you are looking at the newsfeed, on my S2 it goes back to a menu with events, friends, birthdays etc and then pressing back again closes it, on the Nexus it just closes the app so I can't ever access this page. Thanks

Hey guys,

Just wanted to ask what the general consensus is on the build quality of these devices?
Pretty good, I really like the rubberised back, quite grippy and feels nice, for the price the quality is really good, maybe not ipad level but not something to worry about

Picked up my Nexus 7 3G form First Tech this morning. Super frustrated that I need a micro-sim AND that you HAVE to RICA with your ID book and not a drivers license....such crap

Anyway, the setup screens look nice :D

Also got the Asus cover, it's not bad. The front flap is a little wobbly but I'll have to search for a better cover.

Anyone know when I can go to look at physical covers? I'm not convinced that buying a cover online is the best option seeing that you can't play with it.

I picked up on the NET a lot of Nexus 7 owners are using Kindle Fire 7" covers, fits perfectly - even the cut outs correspond.

Incredible Connection and Dion Wired have a whole range of Kindle covers - check this option if you can't find Nexus 7 branded covers (Just take your Nexus with, to make sure) ;-)
