I'm quite dissapointed after performing brilliantly for 4 months my M8 just started acting up, the top speaker stopped functioning and the audio jack didn't always work, so I sent it in for repairs(where it still is). I'm hoping it comes back soon, I didn't get to have too much time with lolipop.

After a long time on Lollipop I'm back on 4.4 and happy. Lollipop was an absolute mess full of unnecessary animations and made my phone rot days after use.

Miss the tight Google integration though.

Had an issue with my phones screen. Sent it in for repairs. I subsequently get a call telling me unfortunately they cannot repair it. They will have to give me a new one.

Damn wasn't I happy

Since I've updated my Rom to a news m9 Base rom on my M7 I don't have the HTC self diagnostic menu, but it used to work on previous versions. Dial *#*#3424#*#*
Then click on the battery test (battery should be at 100%) and it will run a [lengthy] test to tell the status of your battery. After getting a replacement from HTC my battery health was at 'Good' level other information can be found by dialing *#*#4636#*#*

Okay so i've just picked up one of these babies (M8) to use as my back up phone - S6 is my daily driver

Any tips or things I should do first? This is my first HTC phone, as I've always gone Samsung.

Is there a way I can get it exactly the same as my S6 without having to do each app and setting manually? i.e. - If I put my sim in the M8 it will have all my apps and settings just as my S6.

Can any M8 be converted to GPE? If so is it worth it

Thanks

Can't answer other questions...

It can be converted to Google Play. I nearly bought one the seller had converted. Was really nice and fast. I do prefer stock android. It depends on what software you prefer I guess

Well depends if you're going to do a complete conversion or just a GPE rom

Google Play is probably the best ROM you can get. I'd get this phone just to be able to run that ROM.

No way to downgrade you M8 to work like your S6 and no way to take over system settings either, use app configuration can be moved over using titanium backup, but both devices need to be rooted which would result in your s6 being sans warranty.

Also, just FYI, a sim stores nothing but network data, no messages, contacts, app configuration of any kind, it does not even store the Internet connection settings.

Within 2 to 5 years there will be no such thing as a sim card, Apple has already begun working on simless, the next device us said to be using an apple programmable sim which the networks will have to use, the following device will be truly simless and network setting will be user download able to the device. Changing networks will take as long as changing your underwear.

Use Helium to backup the apps whose data you want to keep on your old phone then transfer the backup files to the new phone and restore. Doesn't require root which is nice.

Also does not work for most apps as the app developer needs to specifically write in support for helium backups.

Thanks for all the replies. I used the app shareit and it worked well for the above mentioned purpose. I find the battery life amazing on this phone even though it's a year old it out performs my s6 in this department.

There's an update available. I'm already on L, but just checked for system updates and there's one available.
