Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

This Windies effort is nothing short of painful. It hurts to watch.

I blame Pakistan. They should never have lost to them. I had India to win all along and changed to WI just before the toss. My next SuperBru pick has PAK to beat us. That way any last minute changes will be in favour of the Proteas :D

Sachin Tendulkar wants a 25-team CWC. http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/content/story/841887.html

It will be the equivalent of the length of your typical 1960s Ashes tours.

25 is way too much and will reduce the quality, but you can add a couple more teams and shorten the tournament. All the teams do not have to play against each other. No other major World Cup does that.

- Add 2 more teams for a total of 16
- 4 pools of 4 teams
- Two teams from each pool play on a given day and you play each team in your pool once.
- Pool winners are drawn against pool runners-up. 8 teams, 4 matches played over two days
- 3rd and 4th-placed teams can go in to a second-tier competition, a Plate final. 8 teams, 4 matches played over two days. This will give the associates a real chance at winning silverware against Test nations. Good chance of watching the likes of Ireland and Afghanistan knocking Zim, the Windies or Pakistan over in the "final".

At the end of the tournament rank the teams; World Champions #1, runners-up #2, Third-place playoff winner #3. . ., Plate winner #8. Use these rankings to seed teams for the next world cup. This rewards the Associates if they perform well in the secondary competition as it will mean they could be seeded as a 3rd-tier team and be pooled with two Test nations and a weaker Associate, giving them an even better chance of making the main quarter-finals, further boosting their seeding for the subsequent World Cup.

this is a new level of ****tiness by the WI. Can't believe how this once great cricketing nation has fallen to minnow status.

Absolutely no pride or passion or commitment in the performance. I feel sorry for West Indian cricket fans. It must really suck to support such an inept bunch of tossers.

Split innings was tried in aus a few years ago and was a disaster. Not in favor of it, simply doesn't work for odi cricket imho.
20 overs per side - 4 innings, that's a bulletproof idea. The sad fact of the matter is unless the English do it first, it won't work for anyone else.

Well, that is the problem with [-]cricket[/-]sport. Instead of growing the game they're more focused on $$$. If you grow your market globally you can make money as well, but the big three would rather reduce the competition and fatten their own pockets at the expense of the game.

Its not just cricket

They're being silly. If they just aim to bat out the overs, taking minimal risks, they can still get to 200. And with 200, anything can happen.

with 7 wickets down, I doubt they will manage 200. these are their last two recognised batsman. Lose another wicket and the end will come fairly quickly.

their only chance of getting 200 is for these two to bat another 16 overs and I don't see that happening, unfortunately.

Stats for the sake of stats

QUICK EARLY STRIKES = 10

Instances of WI losing 4 wickets for 50 runs or less against India.

This has only happened more often against Australia (14)

Cricinfo love to dream up this stuff. Seriously!

Its not just cricket

Nope.

Football has grown. More and more teams have been added to the Football World Cup over the years. The next European Championships will see 24 teams compete, up from 16 in 2012.

Rugby, through 7s, is growing the sport globally by moving in to non-rugby countries and even allowing them to host regular tournaments. By 2023, 32 teams are set to compete at the Rugby World Cup, up from the current 20, which went up from 16 at the first two World Cups.

Cricket is the only one that will reduce its numbers at its premier tournament and cricket is the only one that actively protects its ''core'' members from new threats.

With minimal risk you can easily manage 4 runs an over for 16 overs. That gives you 64 runs, so 169 after 46 overs. 6 an over for the last 4 gives you 24, so 193. Throw in an extra 7 somewhere and it can happen.

See, easy. They just need to play with this mindset, though. Doubt they can, but they should.

the reality is that they will most likely fail. it's possible but not from this team.
