Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

So here's another shocker for us:

http://www.sport24.co.za/Cricket/CricketWorldCup2015/Duminy-injury-shock-for-Proteas-20150226

Cape Town - JP Duminy is likely to miss the Proteas' next two Cricket World Cup matches after picking up an injury.

According to Netwerk24, Duminy picked up a side strain injury in last Sunday's 130-run loss to India.

While the Proteas' team management is yet to confirm the injury, it is believed that Duminy has a Grade 1 tear, which could keep him sidelined for up to 10 days.

Duminy underwent a scan on Tuesday after suffering in practice and he did not practice at all on Wednesday.

This follows the news that all-rounder Vernon Philander will miss Friday's clash against the West Indies in Sydney due to a hamstring injury.

+1

People seem to use "best this" and "best that" very loosely when making comments against our team.

Ok, forget about best this or that. The proteas have half a team that are WC class and half that are provincial. In this sort of tournament you need more players of genuine international class, not fringe. This is not a testing ground, pick your best players even if they are going to retire in 6 months. Botha is one...is he still available or is he an Aussie now? He is by far a better and shrewder option as your #7

That is bad news indeed. They were reporting this morning on the radio that 'someone' was injured but for some reason wouldn't reveal who, which I found quite strange. Anyhoo...

So how would the team look now?

And make Faf bowl a few overs...

Probably a better looking team than the one that played in the last match.

Injury-free, if JP comes in Behardien and Vern comes in for Parnell, I think that would be our best combination...

Yep, the smaller teams are putting on a much better show so far in the tournament.

Based on our discussion from yesterday on the day/night games I feel sorry for Bangladesh at the moment.

Yep.

Some of the most exciting cricket in a while, these little guys have a lot to prove and they are showing a lot of heart.

I wonder if a separate cup for these guys is in order ? That might be fun to watch

Wtf is it with Duminy and picking up injuries during practice?

Amazing that a guy of his age and fitness, with a 100 people in support squad can pick up injuries like he does. What is he, the 'boy in the bubble'?

Your average 40 yo weekend warrior doing a day job, doing all the chores at home, can run a road race every week then play intense futsal matches week in and out (against 18 yo's), with the ocassional weekend tournament of 8 games, and never tear a muscle. I have seen (and experienced) this myself. And none of their drills is as intense as futsal.

There is something seriously wrong when a person surrounded by physios and docs can tear an achilles as bad as he did in Brisbane a couple of years ago off just a gentle push off on a standard beep test type workout. Something seriously wrong in the management of these fragile guys. And WTF was he doing training 'during' that test match anyway.

To me this comes down to base toughness, and nothing better than regular distance running to build that. Ntini was the best example. Races through over, fields off own bowling, bowls 25 overs and missed one game - as a 'precaution'...in 100 tests. What was he doing? At his height he was running 10 km every day, sometimes on match day, and at a pace (4min/km) that would beat most runners in a race.

All this clever fitness drills, and it all still comes down to the most basic exercise of all.

...btw Sri Lanka rightly got their review reinstated after the review never had a snicko. Crowe is a very logical guy.

And to think the ICC want to cut the 2019 World Cup to 10 teams. I think the major issue though, is that while the associates produce thrilling games, it's normally against other associates. An associate team will 8 out 10 times get massacred by the top 8 which I think is what the ICC is trying to avoid by cutting the number of teams in the next world cup.

Your idea of a separate world cup does carry water (excuse the pun) but would the associates go for it and not feel like they're being part of the 'special olympics' of cricket.

Whatever the outcome, the associates have to play more cricket; a LOT more. They've got the talent to compete with the best but will never fulfill their potential when they play once in a blue moon.

I hate to admit this but it's true. Both would be gold right now.

If nact, AUS would'v epicked him over Lyon and that other fellow they have now.

The biggest problem is that they play in front of mostly empty stadiums...the Ireland game yesterday was so empty you could hear echoes when people shouted. The host countries (for future World Cups) will save money if they didn't have to host games between associates.

I think they'll go with Amla, QdK, Faf, AB, Miller, Rossouw, Steyn, Phangiso, Abott, Morkel, Tahir.

1. Abbott will expect to replace Parnell, and no way AB&Donald will resist the urge to put him in

2. No one has displayed an ability to contain so I have a feeling Phangiso will be brought in. He'll go for under 5 rpo over a full quota of 10 overs. After all, what are the chances a combination of Farhaan's batting&bowling will yield a better nett advantage? ZERO!

? you really have some serious faith in our team.
We have a better chance against PAK but they haven't blown away a team yet and I think right now we're favourites for that whatever our result against WI.

Not about faith though boet. Philander's absence hurt us big time. Where on earth will the wickets come from? We'll always be chasing too much or setting something we'll struggle to defend.

Obviously my money decisions have a bigger "faith" on the Proteas (India aside), but this time I'm compensating in case things go south. :D

Was very clever of Bangladesh to delay bringing in Sakib&Mushfiqur. But it's looking like an 80 run loss at best.

Criminal to conced a run out like that. Only AB does such things. :D
