Ireland name squad for Bok series

The South African-born trio of CJ Stander, Quinn Roux and Richardt Strauss have been included in Ireland's 32-man squad for their three-Test tour of South Africa.

The squad will depart for South Africa on Sunday, June 5 and will be based in Cape Town ahead of the first Test at Newlands (June 11) before moving to Johannesburg for the second Test at Ellis Park (June 18).

The third and final Test will take place in Port Elizabeth at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (June 25).

Roux is one of two uncapped players who have been included in head coach Joe Schmidt's squad, with New Zealander Sean Reidy also cracking the nod.

Roux played lock for Western Province in 2011 and 2012, before signing for Leinster. He was loaned out to Connacht in 2014 and signed a permanent deal with the club last year.

"Touring South Africa will be arduous to say the least so we've attempted to prioritise players who are currently as close to full fitness as possible. In what is always a difficult balancing act, we've taken a long term view with a number of players who need a rest or will benefit from a full pre-season,” Schmidt told the IRFU’s official website.

Players unavailable for selection include Cian Healy, Denis Buckley, Nathan White, Josh van der Flier, Peter O'Mahony, Sean O'Brien, Tommy Bowe, Andrew Conway and Simon Zebo.

Ireland squad:

Forwards

Finlay Bealham, Rory Best (captain), Sean Cronin, Ultan Dillane, Tadhg Furlong, Jamie Heaslip (vice-captain), Iain Henderson, David Kilcoyne, Jack McGrath, Jordi Murphy, Sean Reidy, Mike Ross, Quinn Roux, Rhys Ruddock, Donnacha Ryan, CJ Stander, Richardt Strauss, Devin Toner

Backs

Keith Earls, Luke Fitzgerald, Robbie Henshaw, Paddy Jackson, David Kearney, Rob Kearney, Kieran Marmion, Luke Marshall, Conor Murray, Stuart Olding, Jared Payne, Eoin Reddan, Jonathan Sexton, Andrew Trimble

Ben Smith has been confirmed as vice captain of the ABs, with Kieran Read being captain.

Now the question becomes will he be wing or fullback? I think McKenzie will get a run at fullback, at least off the bench in a game or two.

When is the SA squad being announced?

O, and apparently I have tickets for the Ireland test at Ellis Park.

The Brave Blossoms has retained 10 2015 RWC players, Goromaru is out. This 43 player squad includes 7 uncapped Brave Blossoms, many whom had good games against Hong Kong and South Korea recently. There captain, Leitch, initially announced that he will be unavailable, but Jamie Joseph had apparently inspired him to return to his leadership role in Japanese rugby.

The current Sunwolves Coach, Mark Hammett, will be readying and coaching the team during June until Joseph can conclude with his good standing coaching role at the Highlanders. Note, the Sunwolves and Brave Blossoms are training together, when available, in Japan.

Scotland

Scotland squad for Japan tour

Forwards:

Props: Alasdair Dickinson (Edinburgh), Moray Low (Exeter Chiefs), Willem Nel (Edinburgh), Rory Sutherland (Edinburgh). Hookers: Fraser Brown (Glasgow Warriors); Ross Ford (Edinburgh), Stuart McInally (Edinburgh Rugby). Locks: Jonny Gray (Glasgow Warriors), Richie Gray (Castres), Tim Swinson (Glasgow Warriors). Back-rowers: John Barclay (Scarlets), David Denton (Bath), John Hardie (Edinburgh), Josh Strauss (Glasgow Warriors); Ryan Wilson (Glasgow Warriors).

Backs

Full-back: Stuart Hogg (Glasgow Warriors). Wings: Damien Hoyland (Edinburgh), Sean Maitland (London Irish), Tommy Seymour (Glasgow Warriors), Tim Visser (Harlequins). Centres: Alex Dunbar (Glasgow Warriors), Peter Horne (Glasgow Warriors), Duncan Taylor (Saracens). Fly-halves: Ruaridh Jackson (Wasps), Finn Russell (Glasgow Warriors). Scrum-halves: Greig Laidlaw (Gloucester), Henry Pyrgos (Glasgow Warriors).

Scotland is sending their best available players to Japan, it will be a big clash between world ranked 9 (Scotland - 78.32) and 10 (Japan - 77.05) as per the May 23 World Rankings. There are big Scotland supporters on MyBb which will be giving their attention to this game. Scotland had announced today that Finn Russel will be excluded due to a hit to his head.

Japan also has a game against Canada, but I have no clue on what is going on in their rugby other than the 'new' Americas Rugby Cup with them ending up third on the log.

Lastly, Scotland and Japan has made good players available to participate in the Olympics so there will be no Bennett, Yamada, etc. in the June tests series.

EDIT: Micheal Leitch had been ruled out due to a broken thumb, 10-12 weeks’ recovery.

OT, but relevant to the Springboks selection,

as per Jack White earlier in May,

https://www.enca.com/africa/sport/jake-white-advises-coetzee-to-keep-it-local

Jake White advises Coetzee to keep it local

JOHANNESBURG – Springbok coach Allister Coetzee should not pick South African players based overseas. That was the advice from Jake White, who had Coetzee as his Bok assistant coach for four years.

Speaking to Ballz Radio this week, former World Cup-winning coach White believes that local players should be rewarded for staying in South Africa and that New Zealand’s example should be followed, where the All Blacks don’t pick players from overseas.

currently,

http://www.supersport.com/rugby/sa-rugby/news/160525/Jake_signs_two_more_SA_players

White signs two more SA players

While White won the recent European Challenge Cup with six South African players in his starting line-up, the number is set to grow as the former Bok coach looks for more local talent to bolster his ranks.

This time around it is promising Vodacom Bulls utility forward Nicholas Janse van Rensburg and veteran Tiaan Liebenberg who have signed with the club and will join them ahead of the start of the next French season.

Yep... people and their opinions...

Stormers centre gets Scotland call-up

Cape Town - Stormers centre Huw Jones has been added to Scotland's touring squad for two Tests in Japan in June.

Jones was named as an addition to the squad on Friday after Finn Russell sustained a head injury in a Pro12 match last weekend.

Jones, 22, was born in Edinburgh but he has been a part of Western Province and the Stormers since 2014 after having turned for the UCT Ikey Tigers before then.

When he moved to South Africa in 2012 for a gap-year, he had no intention of pursuing a career in professional rugby.

Scottish Rugby announced the news via their Twitter page on Friday.

Bolded ........ just no. Couple very unlucky players losing out to these poephols.

3 flyhalves in the squad, one of which is injured... Meaning April will be in the match day.

:wtf:

Goosen should have been brought in.

A guy with only +-5 starts in Super rugby shouldn't be playing test rugby as your backup fly half.

And this pretty inexperienced back line will be coached by someone who has 4 months top flight coaching experience only winning what 2 games now?!

Loving that they have Joel chatting to the Lions boys now... More than most, these guys have really deserved this.
