Fair point. But it depends on how Moyes sees our squad. SAF liked attacking as hell fullbacks paired with CB's who could deal with one-on-one situations. Now, not saying Moyes hasn't played like that, but just that we'll have to see.

And if Baines was 25/26 then I'd say he'd be a lock for United, but with the Glazer's transfer policy, it's a doubt for me, especially since they could trust SAF to carry on winning and now they're dealing with a relatively unknown entity.

As long as Moyes does not see fit to bring Pienaar to Old Trafford I'm happy :p

I want to throw a spanner in the works here. Yes the manager says or asks for certain players to be brought it in. Don't you guys think that SAF will also have a say in who comes in and goes out.

Just a note, I have not watched many Utd games, so I cannot comment on any of the players. But personally think 29 is not that old. Yes above average, but I am sure Baines can give you guys at least 4yrs of top level football

The simple fact is that no one knows what SAF's level of involvement will be, probably not even him. Could be the case that he decides not to get involved but Moyes goes to him to advice/guidance.

True, that might be the case. But the way the accountants run clubs these days, a certain outlay for only 4 years of football with no chance of a decent sell-on fee might be what hinders any deal.

Baines comes in which will mean out with Evra and Fabio/Buttner... I don't see that happening

Meanwhile in the Midfield we have Scholes, Carrick (on the wrong side of the 30) and Fletcher that United need to replace - likelihood that United makes another attempt on Fellaini - who can play in both CDM and CM and CAM :) That covers almost every position in the midfield we need :)

United have a strict transfer policy with regards to age, its got to do with the valuation of a player. If you buy a player at 23/24 , you can still get your money back 2/3 years later, where you cant do that with a 29 year old. They have only broken this policy twice as far as im aware, RVP and Berba. Look what happened with Berba too , lost about 15-20 mil on him.

250k a week off the books means we could accomodate wages for another 3 decent players.

I've got my fingers crossed we get Fellaini. His main concern is CL football. No idea what the relationship between him and Moyes is. If it's a good one, that would help.

Would be even better if we could add Strootman as well. That would be an amazing midfield. Better not dream about it though.

I can't see ManU spending £15 million on Baines especially as Evra has had a pretty good season with Buttner as competition/backup and Fabio coming back from loan. The only way I can see Baines joining is if Evra left and/or Fabio goes to Everton in some deal which sees the Baines fee drop somehow eg. player plus cash or loan Everton Fabio for the season but still pay his wages.

On the Rooney situation, I think he'll stay. After the season he's had there's only a few clubs rich (and stupid) enough to spend £30/40 million on him and still pay him that ridiculous salary on top of it. Even spending £20 million + wages on him would be daft imo. As well, I don't think he would be keen on leaving England so it's only really Chelsea and Man City that have the money. There's talk of Arsenal being interested but I can't see Arsenal/Wenger breaking the wage structure for Rooney.

Considering where he's played, he's had a decent season, stats wise.

Fair enough but he's been a lot "better" in previous seasons. I guess RvP's arrival coupled with his personal issues was a major factor in how he performed this season. I just can't see any club spending £40 million in transfer fees on him though. Silly money imo.
 
PSG IN £100M ROONEY DEAL?
Obviously they're not going to actually pay £100m for Wayne Rooney, but the Daily Mirror have done that 'add the fee to the wages' thing to come up with a conveniently round figure. So what's the breakdown? PSG will apparently pay £40m for the England striker (which Manchester United will presumably accept with unbridled glee) and then pay him £15m a year AFTER TAX. That will put him on the same wages as Zlatan Ibrahimovich apparently.

Some more so than others, goal and tribal football are bad sources and are just looking for hits. Guardian , Telegraph are more credible, especially if they are running a specific story and its not just lumped into a transfer column/section.

I usually find it's only a "real" rumour when the club officially announce it directly and when I see the said player in the said club's kit then I know it's a "true" rumour :p
