Well at least the tit seems to have learnt from the way he bungled first transfer window in charge. I just hope they don't pay too much and get fleeced.

I would agree if he was going to a club with lots of competition, Buttner isn't going to be competition.

Can Liverpool compete at that end of the market? Shaw and Lallana would set you back 45 - 50 million pounds.

I agree. They went all out attack and were caught out. Their midfield was too lightweight. They'll definitely be a different side when United rock up. Hopefully Moyes goes the Newcastle route and keeps it quick and all short passes. Rest Rooney, Hernandez, Mata and Kagawa up front.

Rumours are he is reconsidering Chelsea because Azpilicueta's game is improving and Ashley Cole may be offered a one-year deal, so he may not be guaranteed a regular spot. On the other hand United can offer him the starting spot almost immediately as his only real competition looks to be Buttner as Evra is almost certainly leaving.

No we can't. Can't see why we would go for Shaw anyway.

Flanno has more tackles and interceptions than Shaw anyway :D
 
The last time both United and Arsenal missed out on top 4 was 1978/79. That season Liverpool won the league, Everton finished 4th and Arsenal ended an 8 year trophy drought by winning the FA Cup at Wembley. Also Liverpool won their last 4 games without conceding a goal and were unbeaten in their last 8. They also beat United 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Just saw that on LadBible, pretty weird.

David Moyes is being placed under greater pressure at Manchester United as the club's owners, the Glazer family, are demanding Europa League qualification, club sources have told ESPN.

United no longer have any realistic hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League, but reaching UEFA's second-tier tournament is still very much a possibility.

While sources say the manager has not been given anything like an ultimatum, reaching European competition is now seen by the club's owners as a major target for the remainder of the season.

Although there is an external perception that a lack of continental football may actually aid the side next season, as has been the case in this campaign with Liverpool’s title challenge, that is not the view at the top levels of the club. The Glazers see such games as exceptionally significant in terms of revenue, particularly given the level of attendance that United usually guarantee.

Club sources have told ESPN FC that the “cold reality” of failing to qualify for the Champions League has hit the owners since last month's quarterfinal elimination by Bayern Munich, with the manager’s situation now having changed again since the initial last-16 victory over Olympiakos.

The 3-0 second-leg win in that tie seemed to have secured Moyes’ status, but it is understood his position is no longer quite so safe.

While, according to sources, he is not “on the brink of the brink,” as was the case following the 2-0 first-leg defeat to the Greek side, a summer sacking is still far from unthinkable.

That latest shift reflects some of the debate that has gone at boardroom level regarding Moyes’ performance, and the way the pendulum of opinion has swung.

ESPN FC has been told doubts first properly grew among the hierarchy after January’s 2-1 FA Cup defeat at home to Swansea City, which was the initial point at which key figures had even contemplated that the manager’s tenure perhaps should not be as long term as initially anticipated. Since then, the Glazers have also taken a much more active interest in weekly performance.

United’s form has picked up in the last month, however, with three wins in their last four Premier League games and a respectable showing against Bayern in the Champions League.

That has moved them to within three points of sixth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand, not to mention a vastly superior goal difference compared to the Londoners.

Seventh place would be enough for United to qualify for the Europa League in the event of Arsenal winning the FA Cup but finishing fifth.

Roberto Martinez slams David Moyes' excuses for Manchester United crisis

David Moyes should not blame Manchester United’s failings this season on the quality of his squad, Everton boss Roberto Martinez claimed.
Moyes faces a hostile reception when he returns to Goodison Park and Martinez, who replaced Moyes at Everton last summer, raised the stakes by questioning the excuses given for United’s rapid decline.
The champions trail Everton by nine points with a game in hand, even though Moyes spent £27.5million to bring in Marouane Fellaini from his old club and £37.1m on Juan Mata. ‘They are still the league champions and they haven’t lost anyone,’ said Martinez. ‘It’s the opposite. They have two players on top.

‘United’s squad is bigger and better than people are trying to make out.’
Moyes has suggested he inherited an ageing group from Sir Alex Ferguson, but Martinez believes Jose Mourinho has proved that age is no obstacle by turning Chelsea into contenders.
He added: ‘Who are these United veterans? Rio Ferdinand? How many games has Rio played? Not many and Ryan Giggs hasn’t played many, either.
‘You could look at Chelsea and say they are more of an ageing squad. In football, not everything is straightforward — there’s no black and white.

‘An ageing squad if you win becomes an experienced squad with knowhow. If you lose, it becomes the players have no legs. It’s something in between those extremes.
‘You look at Chelsea, title contenders, but squad-wise worse than United.’
Moyes, who enjoyed a rapturous send-off from Everton fans in his final home game last May, knows there will be a very different atmosphere on Sunday.
But he reminded those supporters — and Martinez — that they are building on the foundations he put in place during 11 years on Merseyside.
‘Great credit to Roberto but he has a group of players who were always capable of moving up the league,’ said Moyes. ‘Don’t forget Everton finished above Liverpool last year, and the year before. So it was a great achievement. In a way it should not be a surprise they are doing well. They’ve been in seventh or eighth place for most seasons recently.

‘We also finished in the Champions League. Hopefully in time everyone will look at it and say it was a really good period in Everton’s history.’
Meanwhile, Phil Neville — Moyes’s captain at Everton and now on his staff at Old Trafford — admitted United have let their fans down.
‘We have not fulfilled any expectations,’ he said. ‘We have failed and that doesn’t sit kindly with anyone.
‘I find it difficult to watch Match of the Day. I find it almost impossible because we’ve suffered this season.’
