Official NOKIA N8 thread

Cool! Let us know how it REALLY is!

I think he does need to pre-empt any review with a quick breakdown of any possible pre-existing bias ;) I'm finding this is affecting a lot of the reviews read. One needs to sift through this to decide whether the phone is suitable for your own needs.

I'll admit I want the best camera as one of my priorities so there isn't really much choice but the fact it does everything else well helps the case.

I'm reading another review on the N8 and I am still battling to comprehend this infatuation with the apparently "slow", "clunky" interface.

Is this honestly what people are so opposed to?

Things like having to drill down through multiple menus to get to simple options at times and the clunkiness of the home screen widgets make it feel very archaic when compared to the slickness of other mobile operating systems.

The widget manipulation is a great example: you have to press down for quite a while (almost twice as long as most other mobile operating systems) to begin editing the elements on the screen, and then you can only add or remove the widgets or move them up or down.

First off, anything you leave buried deep in a menu is clearly something you don't access that often anyway so what is the big problem? If you need to access it all the time then put it on the home screen!

Secondly, how often do you change your widgets? They make it seem like a major chore but you are unlikely to be doing this multiple times a day anyway, surely?

Online Launch Edition orders, which will open on the 11th of October with the NokiaStuff team is for cash purchases and not contracts / upgrades form Operators and Service Providers. The price has been finalised and it will be R4,799.00 – which will include a silicon pouch and personal butler delivery in service in selected areas. If you live outside the area where the butler’s will be doing the deliveries then the N8 will be couriered to you. The deliveries will start on the 25th of October 2010.

Contracts are expected in November but this is dependent on the operators and not Nokia.

According to the page they have stock, butler service, and selling for R4799. Now it just needs to filter down to the network operators so I can upgrade my contract for one.

damn, thats a good price....decisions.
U know the operators are going to SCREW us on prices, contract & pre-paid. & these guys are delivering from end of October, the operators will probably only get it on the shelves just in time for Christmas.

A quick update for everyone - we have just opened the Online Pre-Orders for the Nokia N8 with the guys from OnlineStuff - you can find the story here http://bit.ly/bile26 The wait is almost over!

instead of starting ANOTHER N8 thread, i thought i will post here :)

A mod to the N8 camera has been released that removes compression of the images for still camera & provides continous auto-focus & bumps up the framerate to 30 fps.
see here : http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n8_ge...video_with_continuous_autofocus-news-1997.php

difficult to actually see the difference in the samples of stills (bumps up the image size from 2.5 to 11.5 MB!)

im sure the video improvements are more visible.

The biggest gripe I had with my old Nokia n82 was copying files to the memory card as the internal speed on that was VERY slow. Copying photo's and songs to and from the n82 took just short of forever. Is the n8 still struggling from slow file access or is it resolved?

It shouldn't, N95/N82/N81 etc...used an older USB version, ever since the N85 Nokias and most other phones now have high speed USB, a few gigs will be taken in within 5-10mins.
