Official NOKIA N8 thread

Exactly the same thing happened to me about a month ago. I don't know why but I immediately suspected the battery. I bought a new one on the internet, removed the old one (2 torq screws) and switched in the new one. Voila. Problem solved. And I get much better battery life now which makes me suspect that mine had a dud battery to start off with.

Okay, so my N8 (that was working perfectly since I got it), has all of a sudden died.
As in totally bricked.
No dodgy firmware, programs - plain official software from Nokia.

Was on a phonecall, when all of a suuden it switched off. I tried switching with no avail. The charging light won't come on when plugged in.
Nothing, no matter what I do, will make it switch on.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how long did it take Nokia to fix/swop?
This is my only phone, so will Nokia provide a loan phone whilst it is in for repais (it's still under warranty and only 3 months old)?

:(

It's a power issue which has been going on for a long while. Well documented on the Nokia forums, I think there is even a note of it on Wikipedia. It happened to me in early January, I took mine into Vodacom and had to wait the 2 weeks before I got a new one (Vodacom didn't provide me with a loan phone). I'm not sure what will happen if you take it to a Nokia care centre but they should have more knowledge on this issue and hopefully exchange it immediately.

This is one of the reason I got a memory card so my contents are backed up every week.

i luve this phone but its giving me constant prblems, reboots time and again, today the keypad stalled, are this hardware or software problems?

If it's rebooting time and time again, I fear it's the power problem arising that's how most start out, that's how mine started out. About the keypad stalling, I'm not sure...if you made previous back up then I'd say reload that, maybe it's cause of something recently installed.

Do you have a link to the battery? :)

Will Nokia replace the phone? Or just repair it?

I see you stay in fourways. Come down to "1two1 Cellular" (Nokia Care-The colony shopping Center- Jan Smuts) They will have a look at it. Tell you whats wrong in 10-15min. If warranty is applicable then they'l fix it while you wait for free, or order a replacement which comes within 10-15 days (busy waiting for a replacement on my e7- [Manufacturing defect])
Guys there are quick and although prices to fix out of warranty devices is high, you are still within warranty and should have your phone fixed for free

I read people droppin their phones, riding over it with cars and my self also dropped it in the steet and it fell glass 1st, sliding on the tar and not a scratch from my standing height.. my friend got a new N8 a few weeks ago, it falls out his pocket while getting out the car and the screen cracks!

WTF!!

MTN won't cover it... Should he give Nokia care a call?

thanks for the info, my n8 isnt a problem but my moms one has been quite problamatic and vodacom have taken the phone back twice and both times taken over a month to get it back to her.

Seems like SA only has the black and silver hey..

Otherwise you have to go to Nokia care centre to change the cover for you.. (but that's additional cost :( )

So I got WhatsApp, cool application for free sms kind of like Blackberry Messenger.

I wanted to know is there any application out there which can give the effect like apples instagram to photo's?

Hi i got my n8 around in may and i got it in the lime green colour:P at first i wanted the black one but hey..i'm in love with it, and not sure about if you can only get the black and silver one here since i got the lime green one...but i remembered the one store owner asking me where i got mine from because SA does not have this colour, so i don't know..maybe lucky? im on contract with nashuamobile btw

Okay, got my N8 back from Nokia Care...

They not only fixed the dead phone issue - but also the purple display!!!!
:)

Only problem now, is that all my apps etc. are gone. They effectively did a factory restore. Everything gone.

So now I'm busy restoring my phone to a previous state.
Let's hope its all good.

You are going to need to reinstall Ovi store and the Nokia Maps via Software update for some reason it does not work by normal installations.

For some reason, OVI Store doesn't show in 'software updates'.
When I open OVI Store... it doesn't even connect..

So, I'm installing CNN app - apparently it has sonething to do with the QT version.

Also, I don't have OVI Maps installed..
So I downloaded 3.07 from Betalabs, and installed that. A prompt came up aking to download 'updates 1 of 5'. I assume it's the various apps included in the new OVI Maps app.
