Official PS3 HDMI Cable

Wharfedale 46" HDLCD

Hmmmmmm... Don't know what the chances are that you're experiencing a situation similar to mine that's completely unrelated to the cable.

Only suggestion I can come up with is to test your PS3 and cable on a set that's known to be working...

Everything that I do on my PS3 that is 1080p automatically change the input on the TV to 1080i.

If I force the PS3 to play BluRay at 1080p then it won't play and the LCD shows Not Supported. Though it is a 1080p LCD.

The cable cannot do that. The best is to compare the specs of the TV input/PS3 source.

PS also check if the TV is HDCP complient.

Yip, Good idea. I think I must do that. Then I'll know where the problem is.

Oh, as an aside - my tv exhibits exactly the same symptom. Sinotech full HD 42". 720p and 1080i work fine and dandy. The moment I switch either my notebook or 360 to 1080p, the tv tunes 1080i/60Hz on a blue screen... Used to work, though.

Luckily with the Sinotech it's a known issue. Already been in touch with them & they'll supposedly send a techie to my house to swap out the offending component.

EDIT - sorry, I see you were spouting the same carp in that thread...

Call it what you may, not my fault you know Zip/Zero about electronics and signal propogation.

Also the OP did not mention at first he had a HDMI cable and he is experiencing a problem with the 1080p signals.

I would like to know what that component is? Why dedrade to fail later?

Sure use it loose it, your problem, if you feel constipated about it take an Enigma.. I mean enema. There are many others that knows the real fact too. Please read the wiki, maybe it will enlighten you to what it really means. Nobody ever stated it would not work but then again each on his own and again believe what he wants. As the say eat ****t get ****t or cr@p in cr@p out.

Dude, even taking the spelling mistake/mistype into account, I still don't have the faintest idea what you meant to say. The sentence doesn't make any sense...

Dude, you say they have to replace a component in your TV to fix the 1080p decoding, I said I wish to know what this component is they have to replace. So that means I would like to know how that component degraded the signal from 1080p that used to work to 1080i that seems still to work. Some claimed the digital signal eithe works or it does not work. Strange problem you have from a electronics viewpoint.

Ok, so I went into my PS3's settings over the weekend.

In display settings I chose 1080p and tested it. It worked perfectly so I saved it like that.

When I play GT5 on my PS3 now then the LCD shows that it is receiving a 1080p signal. So there is no problem with the LCD being able to display 1080p resolutions.

So it is back to the drawing board. I think it might just be the cable.;)

Are you looking to replace the cable you are using? When I bought my PS3, I just went to Hifi Corp and bought a 1.5m cable for about R150. Whether the cable is cheap or expensive, it does not matter unless your connecting distance is 50m or more. Don't even bother with the expensive monster cables that cost 10x the price.

In use a monster cable that was a 10th of the price of your monster cable. :D

I am losing you Peisang, Which LCD and cable are you using to test the PS3 with GT5? Now when/how are you losing the signal/  Were you testing the same setup with another cable on the same Wharfedale 46" HDLCD

My setup:

PS3
Wharfedale WH46 Full HD LCD
HDMI Cable (720p, 1080i, 1080p - 1.3b)

Same setup the whole time.

When I play PS3 Games I can play it in 720p, 1080i and 1080p with excellent quality picture.

When I watch a DVD on PS3 the picture quality is not good at all.

When I watch a Blu-Ray DVD on my PS3 the picture quality is good but not like it's supposed to be.

You do know that DVD does have the same resolution as Blu Ray as it is not classified as HD so obviously the quality won't be the same.
