Official Rugby World Cup 2015 Thread

Awesome test match!!! What a game. It wasn't pretty but it was solid.
Well done to the AB's they deserved it, but we put up a formidable fight.

We can match them, and even beat them on physicality, just not ingenuity.
I really honestly thought we had a chance, and we did, but they won out on the day. They were pushed though into a game that was uncomfortable for them.

Heads high, great effort, next time boys.

Still think, as I said before, our biggest problem is 10. Pollard had an awesome game, kicked well, but everything outside him was dead. Why?
Lambie would have been the same. We are playing on the wrong side of the field with nothing kicks down the oppositions throats. Kick the ball out ffs. A simple statement but its true, watch the last world cup we won, Butch put us in the right field position to play and win.

Bah, anyway. I am not disappointed, we were always up against it in a big way, and our team can hold their heads up high, every single last one of them.

It was pollard doing that! Kept giving away possession with useless up field kicks. That's why we were ****ed up in our 22. No kicker to clear, until lambie came on.

You cant take away from the lad he spliced the posts with every chance today, well done. Not always been the case.
If you cant unlock your outside on attack every now and then, you are effectively playing with 10 men.
Schalk and others with this one dimensional crash ball tactic that is as old as the hills and all to predictable running into the space between 9/10 to carry forward is really overdone.
If you dont make the yards and don't draw the defenders do something else, it seems we have 'no' something else to offer, with talent to burn on the outside relegated to a defensive role only.

As far as I'm concerned we don't really have a backline, well not one we use anyway.

I am still proud. Kicking possession away cost us the game. We knew about it for a long time but HM persisted with the gameplan tactic. LoL how many times do we want to kick before realizing that it's not working?

Sadness, disappointment and hurt is what I feel but I am still proud of the boys.

In modern rugby goalkicking get points but do not win matches on it's own. We needed a few tries.

edit: not just this game against awesome opposition where opportunities are scarce, every game.
ruck, 9, arbitrary loose forward, that is all.

I would wager Fourie knows his turf as well. But if 9 and 10 cannot get the rest on the go forward its always gonna be more difficult.


Another thing, how was Fouries cheek, jussus, he took a big knock in the first half then that thing came out, hope he hasnt cracked anything. Tough as nails that man.

The worst part about losing is the lemon game next week Friday.

Flanker McCaw, who led the All Blacks to their 20-18 win over the Springboks at Twickenham on Sunday morning, is shown running around the back of an opposition ruck and catching Louw on the head with his elbow as he runs past.

The citing commissioner has 48 hours from the final whistle to decide whether a player has a case to answer.

The closeness of score belies the vast gap between NZ and SA and they wouldnt have stood a chance against Aus with same tactics.

SA came close due to 6 penalties, because they kicked away possession in an attempt to get mistakes in the NZ half. You can only get so far with such rubbish. Then they defend like warriors (best defence because they had to do the most of that in tournament)....absolutely no creative attacking...why wouldnt they even try running once or twice?

I am gald I didnt get up for it and watched it on recording, absolute crap that is sure to impress the purists who like to see great defence, ruck, maul after maul...but as far as a spectacle , absolute rubbish.

Someone commented to us last week that they play 'dumb'..and I have to agree.
 
How on earth do we get creativity, flair and imagination into our game? We have the talent in abundance, and SA easily has the raw capability to rule the rugby world. Our problem lies in our heads.

The problem, I suspect, is much bigger than just the coach and team selection, which is what we fans argue about. Ultimately the responsibility lies with those who select the selectors and appoint the coaches, ie rugby management and administrators. After all, how can you extract the right decisions about creative-fostering coaches and creative-loving selectors if the decision-makers are hidebound, uncreative, and incapable.

I just don't know how we go about changing all this. It requires a detailed knowledge of the structures of rugby in SA.

But if we are going to make cultural changes, they need to go all the way from school and up through the clubs and provinces. It's helluva lot more than getting a new coach.
