Official Super Rugby Thread 2012

It is, isn't it. Read somewhere that the Superbru winning % is the lowest ever this year.

I went Bulls with 1. If the Stormers win I'm still happy. :-)

If it is I am sure it will be something to behold.

I think I will have the Bulls for the win (yes because I am a fan and in a 50/50 game like this why not :p)

This weekend like last, might see some (minor) upsets.

Is it just me or does this year's Super Rugby feel harder to call the winning team?

The pink will be something to behold.

The game should be ok.

It's not a knock-out game game - I'd go bulls then.

Teams

Stormers

15. Joe Pietersen , 14. Gio Aplon , 13. Juan de Jongh , 12. Jean De Villiers (C) , 11. Bryan Habana , 10. Peter Grant , 9. Dewaldt Duvenage , 8. Duane Vermeulen , 7. Rynhardt Elstadt , 6. Siya Kolisi , 5. Andries Bekker (VC) , 4. Eben Etzebeth , 3. Brok Harris , 2. Tiaan Liebenberg , 1. Steven Kitshoff

Reserves: 16. Deon Fourie , 17. Frans Malherbe , 18. De Kock Steenkamp , 19. Nic Koster , 20. Louis Schreuder , 21. Burton Francis , 22. Gerhard van den Heever

Bulls

Zane Kirchner , Akona Ndungane , Johann Sadie ,Wynand Olivier , Bjorn Basson , Morne Steyn , Francois Hougaard , Pierre Spies (C), Jacques Potgieter, CJ Stander (4), Juandre Kruger, Flip van der Merwe , Werner Kruger , Chiliboy Ralepelle , Dean Greyling .

Replacements: Bongi Mbonambi , Frik Kirsten, Wilhelm Steenkamp , Arno Botha , Jano Vermaak , Louis Fouche, JJ Engelbrecht.

If this game is half as good as I am hoping it to be it will be something to remember.

The one on one clashes is enough to watch the game for. Sadie vs de Jongh, Spies vs Vermeulen, etc etc. Then there is the line outs where it will be Bekker vs Kruger. On the wings it is Basson vs Aplon.

Now I just hope we see some good rugby come Saturday and not a game where neither team deserves to win :(

Rumours emerged this morning of a Stormers kit to counter the threat from that of the Bulls ......... Some or other manager was worried about too many Stormers fans supporting the men in pink from Pretoria, so something had to be done. I am glad to be able to bring you all a pic of the Stormers outfit for tomorrow. It should be a funky type of affair.

Runaway win coming for the Highlanders ... 38 -12 ... 10 minutes to go.

FT Highlanders 43 - 12 Rebels

31 points from the Highlanders without reply in the second half.

Some of us forgot to make our picks. At least this week I'll have my first few picks of the tournament. How I managed 5 points already without a single pick is an interesting ponderosity...

From Superbru -

Default picks
If you miss a pick, you may be eligible for a default pick, depending on the allocation of defaults we have made for the tournament.
A default is a pick for the home team (in tournaments with home and away games) or the team ranked higher in the world in the sport in question. If the default team wins, you will score a Win Point. But you won't be eligible for any other points (e.g. Margin Points and Bonus Points) and if there is a Grand Slam Point available in the round, you will be disqualified from it.
A default pick is not an automatic point. It is only awarded if the default team wins, and all it tries to do is guess what you would have picked if you had been able to make the pick.
Do defaults apply in knockout rounds?
If this tournament has knockout rounds towards its final stages (e.g. playoffs, quarter-finals, semi-finals or a final), defaults will not apply to these rounds.
Why does SuperBru have default picks?
We use the default pick system because we don't want people who miss a game or two to feel like they've fallen behind and that there's not much point in continuing. We think the default safety net is reasonable, especially because it's tightly controlled by only a few defaults being available for each tournament. Long-term defaulting gets you nowhere; and if you're feeling upset because someone else got a default, ask yourself if you really couldn't make a better prediction than someone who's just allocated the home team...
Rules for this tournament
You are eligible for 7 default picks. Anyone joining the tournament late will be allocated late joiner default points up to a limit of . Regular defaults will subsequently still apply over and above the late joiner defaults.

Default picks done by Superbru?

I stand to be corrected but I think if you fail to make a pick, Superbru automatically picks the home side for you with a ridiculous margin like 999. That way you still get the Win Point.

EDIT: See SiriS beat me to it.

Looks like poor Rosaudio has relied solely on default picks. Probably better than his own choices though...:p

So I just made my final pick. Stormers to beat the Bulls by 3.

It was a very difficult pick but I just feel that the Stormers forwards won't be a walkover like the Reds. So Bulls will struggle to get that momentum going.

Blues also made life very difficult for Bulls up front and in the end the Bulls lost that match because they never got going.
