What's up with the tmo? Rebels scored 2 illegitimate tries after forward passes and the Chiefs score what looks like a legitimate try and the tmo rules Osbourne knocked on!!!!

Refereeing in rugby will lose supporters. This year is easily the worst display of refereeing I've ever seen. They must create a new payment law for referees. The main referee, the linesmen and the tmo gets say R100 000 combined. For every mistake they make 5% gets deducted. If you make a combined 20 mistakes you get DJ..'d for 2 games.
 
Yeah, it's a lottery. I think the buck stops with the law makers. They've contrived to make the rules as complicated as humanely possible. Lets say the rules are very specific but the interpretation is ambiguous and varies from ref to ref. frustrating to say the least. Even the forward pass is now subjected to technical analysis and scrutiny. It used to be if the ball went forward it was a forward past but now it's the trajectory and the angle at which it leaves the hand and this and that.... Wtf....

Anyway.... Tmo was meant to bring some clarity to proceedings but doesn't always seem to be the case...

Dude, forward pass has become so ambiguous and confusing now. All sorts of things are considered, forward momentum of the ball and of a player moving forward, the balls trajectory, the angle of the players hands throwing the pass etc etc etc....

Isn't that how it's always been? The ref couldn't usually see all that, but from a technical perspective (and how commentators look) that's how forward passes are spotted.

In Rugby Union the law is effectively the same: a "throw forward" occurs when the ball is thrown forward i.e. towards the dead-ball line. The term "throw" is used to emphasise that it is at the point of release that the pass is adjudged forward or not. As with the rugby league rule above, what occurs in the later flight of the ball is not in question - the momentum of the passing player, a bounce, or a gust of wind can cause the ball to travel forward relative to the ground but this in no way constitutes an infringement. In the terms of the RFU's original 1949 "Case Law" ruling, published in Percy Royds' History of the Laws of Rugby Union: "a throw-forward is not decided on relation to the ground, but on the direction of the propulsion of the ball by the hand or arm of the player passing the ball".

The match was almost overshadowed by some strange television match official decisions, as two tries were given where passes looked clearly forward, while Anscombe’s fourth was ruled a knock on when replays didn’t show a clear knock.

The TMO should be identified and never be allowed near a rugby ground or game at any level. Three calls were referred to him, all three went in favour of the home side, who benefitted to the tune of two tries while the visitors were denied a try on the third occasion. And please don't try to tell me that the ball can travel forward without it being thrown forward. The TMO's officiating was disgraceful, to put it mildly.

The term 'forward pass' was absolutely redefined tonight! How bad was that TMO! Rebels got the serious rub of the green on all three occasions. The last two were close calls, but the first one was just rediculous.

Did everyone see that first forward pass (like 5m forward)? How can someone not pick that up in super slow mode with a painted line on the pitch between the players to use as a reference?

Walsh is so far from being a competent ref that Zuma would probably look more pro if he took to the field .......
