I think the SA teams should really go back this week and have sessions with the referees and take the new interpreations seriously. The Sharks and the Cheetahs were the worst of the lot. The Sharks can count the selves very lucky Bismark didn't get a card earlier. If the teams aren't going to take this seriously, the SA teams will have a very very long season ahead of temselves.

And for those Shark supports that's gonna come out and blame the ref - go back and get up to date on what the law book says. THe ref had a very good game!

Sharks 18 - 19 Chiefs

Needless to say I am a deeply disappointed supporter tonight. :(

At the stoke of the gong the Sharks stuff up! The better team, I think, won. The Sharks had not obtained a good understanding of the laws and coughed it up way too often. And not playing the changes in laws correctly cost them one yellow card

And there is the moment of insanity by Bizmark!!! :wtf: I am sorry but his discipline is shocking and needs his shorts kicked!

The weather made sure the game was never going to open or expansive, but neither team can complain as neither would have prepared for the wet conditions.

So the team still haven't gotten to grips yet with the new laws and changes made. Plenty of work to do before their next games.

I agree with you McT...

Very disappointed supporter tonight, and we really do need to learn the new laws...

BUT saying that, considering the Chiefs had a much better grasp of the laws.. we did manage to keep them mostly in check.

Must say I'm rather annoyed they're making drastic changes to the laws every season. FFS how are the teams supposed to get continuity both on the park(ref continuously blowing infringements) and tactically( teams optimize tactics over seasons). The first few games now become more of lottery as teams fumble about

Yeah, the law changes are getting a bit much. I think they are still trying to fix rucks since they stopped allowing players to use studs against buggers lying on the wrong side. In the old days there were no grey areas, just some 100kg bastaard stomping on you. Much more effective way of policing the matter if you ask me.

Was some good patches of rugby altough you can clearly see it is still ealy in the season .

Grats to the Bulls and Weepee. Well done boys.

Referees for S14 matches

Hi all,

Hope someone can shed some light on this. How is SANZAR appointing refs for each game at the moment? ie If the Bulls play the Warratahs in Auzzie - will they use a Auzzie/Kiwi/Bok ref?

I noticed on the weekend that when the Sharks played the Chiefs at home in Durban they used a Kiwi ref?

Comments much appreciated.

[Go Bulls!!!]

These new laws that have been introduced this season are mostly absurd and are completely detracting from the game. I didn't enjoy a single penalty-fest from this weekend and I don't envisage enjoying any more this season. I didn't have an issue with most of the ELVs last season but now they seem to be making law changes merely for the sake of making law changes, and it's ridiculous! The breakdowns are now unfathomable; up-and-under laws are just plain stupid; teams in possession of the ball can now be offside without kicking (:erm:); I can go on.

It's just ridiculous. As much as I like to see the game evolve, evolving to a point where the referee has more influence over a game than the players is a sad state of affairs and needs to be addressed asap...

The rules were always there, if you don't follow the rules - you should be punished. As easy as that, you just have to be disciplined. It is good that they changed the rules and gave more clarity, as the Southern Hemisphere and Northern Hemisphere rules looked different even though they used the same rule book.

Stomers will win this year (best backline by far) bring it bulls!!!!!!!!!!!!

stormers will win nothing. They were lucky to beat the lions but they did teach the sharks a lesson: secure your lead. They got a strong first half lead that really only needed protecting in the second to walk away. The sharks are crying ref foul and all sorts but the problem is they never looked like winning. Neither did the chiefs. The ref just handed it to whoever looked least like losing. The sharks should have established and guarded a lead. I am very disappointed in them.

Still, they learn. They will come back. They will not be set back by this loss and their pending fall to the cheetahs on saturday. They will bounce back in week 3 and finish stronger than the stormers because they have what the stormers lack: killer instinct. It tells the team to do in the second half whatever they did in the first to subdue any challenge. I think we've seen the best stormers performance we're gonna see this season. My outlook, at this admittedly early stage and with my admitted bias, for SA teams is:

(1) Bulls
...
(4) Sharks or Cheetahs
(5) Cheetahs or Sharks
--> only one of them will make the semis but the other will be hot on their heels.
...
(8) Stormers
...
(12) Lions (and I say that with optimism and a degree of melancholy).

As for the storming backline: it is good. really good. Based on past performance.

I hold a lot of confidence for Peterson. He really has the skill to come up to green and gold and I think we should see that this year. The man is putting his hand up. Bryan, much as I love him, is no longer the fastest wing by a long shot. Mr Intercept, yes, Mr Opportunist, yes. I wished him well when he left us and I continue to do so. I just don't know if this stormers backline has the forward strength to make them worth a damn thing!

Seriously hope the SA teams that crumbled last weekend pick up their slack (Sharks,Lions,Cheetahs) and the Teams that performed good enough keep doing better (Bulls, Stormers).

I got 4 tickets (main stand) for next weeks Bulls game :D Woot woot.

Sharks secured the services of England fly-half Andy Goode on a loan deal.

So? Where is all the depth and local players the Sharks have been lining up?
First they need the Bulls to help them out with a lock, and now they get an out of form English fly-half.

What about Ruan, Monty Dumond and Guy Cronje?

I have no problem with getting another SA team's player but contracting from overseas is not cool. Develop local talent. Hell the Bulls stuck with Morne Steyn for 2-3 years before he became one of the best.
