Sorry MH but imo deysel can only outplay Juan atm if Earl Rose outplays peter grant....

Blinkers have just become too snug on some people ...... Like DJ says, watch how Deysel breaks those lines .... he is miles ahead of Juan.
 
Don't get me wrong, I still have the utmost faith that Juan can and will perform brilliantly for the Boks. I also believe the we have a fantastic replacement for him (soon) in the way of Deysel. He has the youth and ability to surpass Juan as one of our best ever flankers...
 
True that, Juan is a workhorse but he's getting on and someone like Deysel can't be ignored much longer ......

Also I have no blinkers... I call it as I see it for the boks team. Why do you want a play breaker if you have Schalk, Bekker (soon) and spies? Think man who is left to do the grunt work?

Maybe you should rather by voicing how deysel is miles better than Schalk if you want a line breaker...

Ps would you rate deysel higher than brussouw?
 
At this moment, with the new rules, maybe he is better than Brussouw ... it's tough to call with no Brussouw playing though ;)

Deysel does grunt work, hell, he's basically in the same mold as Smith but with a little Spies thrown in, that's why I rate him for the Bok team. Schalk, Spies and Deysel would make an absolutely awesome loose trio.

They're different players - one is a carrier and the other is a fetcher. But your statement about finding a balance in the forwards definitely rings true. Schalk also doesn't have many seasons left in him imo and we need to be "breeding" these guys to take over the their respective positions.

But I love how we can argue about this, because it just goes to show what unbelievable talent we're producing in this country. All of the players mentioned above are Bok quality material and I think the decision to play one over the other will be a tactical one rather than a talent-related one...

MH I agree Deysel is a great talent but he will need another season or two. The way schalk and Juan are playing atm makes them a sure start imo. Would love Deysel on the bench next to bekker and ring them in the last 20 mins... Bekker to spies to Deysel when the other guys are tired will be awesome to behold :)

Ok but now onto the next subject... Locks. Flip vd Merwe from the bulls has impressed me as a nr 4 lock (read gruntworker) and Bekker has finally shown what he can do. Now would you guys start Bekker or rotate him with Victor or keep him on the bench till the last 25-30 mins?
 
Keep him on the bench tbh ..... Victor owns the lineout, plain as that. He may not be a very good captain but him in tandem with John is an invaluable asset to the forward pack. Bekker to inject pace and shake things up in the last 20 or so.

I've noticed Bekker tires a little easily. I'd have him on the bench and start with Victor. The day Victor is benched without injury is the day he retires...

..... on to ruggers. What a strange game the Blues/Sharks one was. For all the 'pace setting' and 'expansive' playing from both sides, it wasn't reflected on the scoreboard :D But, in saying that, I'm glad the boys won another one ...... :D
