Guys my phone keeps telling me Database Full please delete contacts messages etc.

Whys it saying that? I have under 1000 messages and like 250 contacts which is not much.

And out of the 2gb reserved for Apps only 468 is used.

so im not sure why it says that

Ok, my Galaxy S is basically refusing to connect to Kies. The MTP App on the phone just crashes contineously when i select Kies on the device. Then when i unplug the USB cable my phone cannot see the SD card (built in and additional) until i reset the device. I have tried removing all long file names, and every other fix i can find on the net with no success. So now i am gatvol and want to install a new firmware... the problem i have is i cannot connect to Kies. Also my 3 button mode is not working. I want to do the following 3 button fix before flashing a new firmware:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821698

My concern is that it says you should check that your mobile is compatable but the instructions (Below) are greek to me:

HOW-TO check if your mobile is compatible:

Step 1: Download the XVI32 Hex Editor

Step 2: Dump your BML1 block (rooted phone needed):
Step 2 Explained: Open a new command prompt and type:

adb shell
su (a superuser request will be displayed on the phone screen, accept it).
dd if=/dev/block/bml1 of=/sdcard/bml1.dump

The dump will be copied to the root of the internal SD card.

Step 3: Open the bml1.dump file with XVI32.

Step 4: Search (in ASCII Mode) for OFNI.

If the block reads "!@" just follow the tutorial below starting with Step 1.

I have rooted using z4root in the market. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Download XVI32 here: http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/freeware/xvi32/xvi32.htm
ADB is part of the Android SDK, which you can download here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

In easier terms perhaps:
  1. Google "XVI32" and follow the best link to download the file. Install the application you just downloaded.
  2. If you haven't downloaded the Android SDK yet, Google "Android SDK" and follow the best link to download it. It is quite big, so make sure you do it from a good connection with reasonable bandwidth. Install the SDK after you finished downloading it.
  3. Part of the Android SDK is a command-line utility called "Android Debugging Bridge", or "adb". You will use this utility to execute a shell command on your phone.
  4. Make sure the setting "USB Debugging" is enabled on your phone and then plug your phone in via USB to your computer.
  5. Start a Windows Command Line instance by typing "cmd.exe" in your Run / Search box from the Start menu (depending on your version of Windows).
  6. From the command-line interface, navigate to the folder you installed the Android SDK, i.e. type "cd\AndroidSDK\tools" if you installed it to C:\AndroidSDK.
  7. Type "adb.exe shell" and press Enter.
  8. Type "su" and press Enter.
  9. Accept the super user request that appears on the phone.
  10. Type "dd if=/dev/block/bml1 of=/sdcard/bml1.dump" and press Enter.
  11. You now have a dump file of your BML1 on the root of your phone's internal SD card.
  12. Mount your phone as a mass-storage device and open the internal SD card - usually you would get 2 "disks" mounted - one for the internal and one for the external SD card. You need to open the internal SD card.
  13. Start up the XVI32 utility you downloaded and open the "bml1.dump" file from your phone's internal SD card.
  14. Search for the text "OFNI" in the file and check whether the block reads "!@" or not. If it does read "!@", follow the tutorial that you were given on the other page...

Awesome, thanks Etiennek & FarligOpptreden for the translation :) I will give it a bash tonight! For some reason i assumed that all this analysis was done on the device so i kept looking for XVI32 in the Android Market!

Use EXT4 Advanced lagfix and turn on all the tweaks. Phone will now be blazing fast :D

It also lets you use the backlights on the menu and back keys as a notification light, which I find very handy. Should have been a standard feature.

Thanks Maddmatt,

This has taken my Samsung Galaxy S JPO from being great, to being bloody awesome. The upgrade itself is not a lag-fix, but you can apply one or more lag-fixes from the boot menu. I am using Voodoo now (as per the writer's reluctant suggestion), so the SD storage has gone from RFS to EXT4. I have not enabled all the features yet, not sure it is necessary, but I will play some more when I understand more.

Thanks again, that was a great suggestion on your part. It really has taken my phone to the next level.

D@rk_4ngel, I didn't go with Spike's ROM, because I actually like some of Samsung's functionality, and that ROM pretty much removes all of it. Might look into it at a later date.

I have loaded Doc BUJP8 with the base to medium and medium to full package and i have some issues like my Exchange server calender doesn't sync, and i can't download anything from the market... can someone suggest a stable, Froyo ROM i can flash with Odin?

That's because you loaded the incorrect packages. Those are only for JPO/JPA not JP8. Rather use this addon package http://www.multiupload.com/Z525U7FIE0.

But don't get hung about packages as you can download literally thousands from the market in anycase.

A quick question for all you users: Every time I read this thread it's about applying lagfixes and rooting etc etc. I'm not keen to void the warranty on the phone to apply fixes for everything. Are there any of you that are using your Galaxy S just as is...? How fast/slow is it unaltered...?

I want to get this phone beginning of Jan but not if it's gonna take all this fiddling to get it to work properly.... (I don't mind the fiddling too much at all but not at the expense of the phones warranty--at least not initially)

I did the official Samsung beta froyo update and mine works fine. And I had no major speed problems before the update though. Some people just like fiddling I guess, there's no reason to root the phone or do anything else to it that will void the warranty.

Anybody here have reception issues? I lose reception almost ALL the time, when it's in my pocket, in my car, basically whenever it isn't held perfectly still in mid air in the perfect spot(sometimes hard to find). I am using a 32k Vodacom SIM Card, and have tried a 64k Vodacom data sim card, as well as a Cell C sim card . All 3 have the same problem.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

I tried swapping the phone out within the 7 days of purchasing it, but because of the slight abrasions on the back, they didn't accept it. I love the phone but not being able to actually use it for calls etc. is really pissing me off!

I don't have any problems with the reception. Its totally unfair that they didn't let you swop it in! Where did you get it from?

Vodashop Gateway. I get why they couldn't let me swop it, but it's the kind of problem that takes you a while to notice, hence the small abrasions on the back cover from general use. It doesn't make sense though, I took out a contract with them, and had I no other phone, I wouldn't be able to make use of it. I will be going back to Vodacare soon to see what they have to say (they initially said it was my SIM card)

Or just swop your back cover with someone :D
If you're gonna end up paying for the repairs then maybe you should try doing a firmware update by yourself. There's a small chance it could be a software problem
