Networking Requirements

To ensure Xbox One works optimally and can offer the experiences described above, it is designed with the following networking requirements:

For an optimal experience, we recommend a broadband connection of 1.5Mbps. (For reference, the average global internet connection speed as measured recently by Akamai was 2.9 Mbps). In areas where an Ethernet connection is not available, you can connect using mobile broadband.

While a persistent connection is not required, Xbox One is designed to verify if system, application or game updates are needed and to see if you have acquired new games, or resold, traded in, or given your game to a friend. Games that are designed to take advantage of the cloud may require a connection.

With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.

Can you just imagine how many pissed off SA parents we're going to have Xmas? "HEY, THEY STOLE OUR CABLES NOW MY KID IS CRYING! HE CANT PLAY WTF IS WRONG WITH THIS THING??!!?!"

so basically this kills the Xbox in South Africa

Wow, that sucks... good thing I chose PS4 early on :D

What sux even more is my investment in XBox. My game shelf has around 120 XBox games vs 11 PS3. And I have 3 XBox360 consoles (+ 1 dead). No PS3 as I sold them both.
If the PS4 wins me over and a sufficient number of my mates move over then I suppose there will be a nice XBox sale going up on Carbonite.

Did I miss something? Surely you all have at least a 2mb connection?

To be fair though, your investment into the 360 is moot, considering no backwards compatibility... But I feel you. This is a rather foolish idea by Microsoft.

You still have the 360, just keep it :P

Edit: On topic, seems like I'll be getting PS4 then :< I really feel bad for MS, Xbox One seems to be plagued with problems and issues while the PS4 sits quietly in admiration of gamers everywhere

XBOX ONE:

Cons:

Stupid DRM
US centric (Thumbs down)
Weaker specs when compared to PS4
Rumored to be more expensive than PS4 (Highly likely to be true)
Gaming oriented console? TV oriented? **** this. Can't call it a pure gaming console anymore.
FU to self-published Indie developers
It looks like a big fat ass VCR.
Stupid name
.
.
.

Pros:

Improved D-pad design

Speed is not the issue, its the 'always online'. Just a few months ago our internet was out for about 2 weeks, you're telling me I wont even be able to play console during this time with Xbox one? No thanks

I hadn't decided on either up until now. Considering this announcement I'd much rather give my money to Sony!

Ok different perspectives I guess... last time I turned mine on was months ago.
