YouTube for smartphones to offer offline viewing

In future the YouTube app for smartphones and tablets will allow users to view videos posted on the website even without the internet.

I don't see why this is a big deal - third party apps do this already. I'm not sure about other platforms, but on Windows Phone there are tons of brilliant unofficial YouTube apps that are better than the official ones because they don't follow googles TOS. I imagine it is similar on iOS, maybe Android.

Not via the youtube app. The preloading only goes so far ahead before stopping.
