Goal by Mexico was ruled out as Vela takes the shot into a net that is marked by Pienaar?

Erm can someone please comment on the offside rule for this world cup?

It requires 2 Players to put a man on side? and one man can put the man off side?!?!?!

I ain't no big soccer fan but the offside rule has not changed for the WC.... when the ball leaves the player passing the ball, the player receiving it must have at least one opposition player on the goal side of him (excluding the keeper)

2 players must be between the person receiving the ball and the goal that he is attacking.

In this case the keeper had charged out and that left Pienaar alone on the near post. When the ball was headed on towards the attacker, he was thus offsides.

Apparently the ruling says there need to be 2 opposition players incl goalie behind the ball. Since pienaar was the only such player (khune was in front of vela after pass from some player's head), it qualifies as offside.

Nope it is either 2 players OR 1 player + the goalie.

Not 2 players including goalie.

refs full iriots. no goal is scored ... so Mexico would win the World Cup winner lol

Isn't there also a provisio that the player has to be interfering in play?

There is but that doesn't apply here as the offside player 'scored'.

Well, the thread seems more about a clarification of the off side rule generally than one particular instance, but yeah - that provisio has no bearing on the goal scored...
