I spoke to Frontosa today and was told that there is STILL no ETA on the Sapphire 5870's ... But they're expecting stock of the 5890's next week. Now I ask, with tears in my eyes, how come stock that uses 2x 5870 GPU's are coming in, but no 1x 5870 GPU cards are coming?? I can't spend R8,000 on a GPU, I will not ... I WON'T!

Who else is still waiting? It's been a month, sigh, I'm so sad. Somebody just shoot me, I know I'm moaning.

There is a company, Lets Call it the Taiwanese Semi micro conductor corp shall we,
They are responsible for making the 40nm chips that are on these cards as well as the Gpu's for Nvidia,
Earlier this quarter they experienced major setbacks in production and they are still affecting production currently, they are the primary delay for ATi not having any of these cards to ship to the manufacturers currently, It really sucks as no one is able to get stock and when they do back orders of 50 units are shipped 2/3 cards if we are lucky :(

I know they brought in stock of 5850's last week, I should be getting mine sometime this week, ask other suppliers if they got stock

Well I'm running my Wantitall Wannabe business for the time being... So I'll be able to bring the cards into the country. Just PM me to see what I can do if you are really desperate for one :D.

Thanks for the feedback guys, but alas, I've already paid for the GPU and there's no way to get the cash back, so I'll have to just sit tight.

@Nduimiso - they really brought in stock of the 5850's? I wonder if I should consider going for one of those instead of the 5870?

DJNgoma: How much you charge for one of the cards? Lets say one that costs $400

yeah they did bring in a shipment, unfortunately there is a waiting list and i'll have to wait until next week when there is another shipment to see if i can get one :(

You might be cursing AMD for not making enough (thus lack of supplies) HD5870s, however, remember that the HD5870 runs under higher clocks then all other HD5xx0 series cards, thus the complexity of the chips increases. Only the cream of the crop are selected for HD5870, and the other chips that can't run at the clocks the HD5870 is supposed to run at will be used for a HD5970, or some of the shaders will be disabled and the chip will be used for a HD5850.

These chip companies tend to reuse as much as possible, one such example are those AMD 3 cored chips... some of them are just regular quad cores, but with one of the cores not meeting the TDP, clock speeds or there's just a bigger demand for the Tri-cores and AMD made to many quadcores (in this case people were able to unlock the 4th core).

@ DJNgoma: What do you guys mean with the whole : "Retail price" vs "Our Price" thing on the website?

An i7 920's retail price is not R4550...

I sometimes wonder how wantitall get any business? Their "Retail prices" are all double the prices of prophecy, sybaritic, landmark etc.

I mean http://www.wantitall.co.za/PC-Hardw...CI-Express-Graphics-Card-100281SR__B002PK14SU is R1600 more expensive than http://www.prophecy.co.za/sapphire-hd5870-game-edition-dx11-1080p-hdcp-compliant-p-58280.html

Absolutely ridiculous.

Well, they mainly survive on sales of stuff that's not available in SA. So for tech stuff that is here, it's not worth it, but for a book you can't get anywhere else in SA? Awesome service.
