Ok, so I am ready to buy me a new gaming rig, I think i have decided I will get a decent mobo and go with a Intel CPU. I am now really undecided about what GFX card to buy...I have been leaning towards the 8800GT, but a few people have mentioned that i should wait for the new Ati 4850....Apparently this card will be in the same price range..However how long till it hits stores in SA and can we safely convert the dollar price to Rands?? Please help! ;)

Thanks :)

Grim

could be 2 months could be 4 months

buy the 8800gt you wont be sorry unless you want to wait for the 4850 which in my opinion wont be much better than 8800gt

Yeah i dont really want to wait 4 months for a card that may only be slightly better, and probably cost more anyway.

Mercurial, try PC International, not sure if they have the latest latest though.

Just a question, what W PSU would I need to run a Intel system with 2HDD, 1 DVD Rom with a 880GT? Would a 300W / 350W do the trick?

Got a quote for a thermal take 500W - R796 :eek::eek::eek:

That just took a dump on my budget

Thanks. I don't that PSU will be enough. I am running 2xHDD's, 2xDVD-Writers and a 8800GTS with a 550W.

Ah ok, just checking cause i dont want to spend that much on a PSU if i dont really need to but i dont want to cut corners either, gaming is a very serious thing you know! ;)

ati hardly ever make the official release man :)

Well this time it seems like they will make it. The card is already popping up in Hong Kong etc etc and there is a German site that just started shipping the Powercolor and Gigabytes. A voltmod is already out for the 4850 as well. The 4870 will make the 25th of June release date just barely and minor shortages will occur in the first week or two but will be fully available when greater volumes of these cards begin shipping in early July. :)

really? O_o i thought the point of the new card was to compete with the old 9800's or better, while the 4870 will be almost on par with the latest from nvidia.

so far, i think i'm gonna wait for the 4870 :D unless the price diffs between the two 4800's is just too much, like the deliciously INSANE 260 and 280

Now there you go making wonder if I should wait for for the 48xx Series, or just get the
XFX Geforce Zalman Edition 8800GT - XXX Edition

You guys suck! You just messed my whole day up! ;) :D

From what I've heard and seen the 4850 takes on the 8800GT and the 4870 the 9800GTX...and wins - performance and price wise :D

Also that the 4870X2 is to take on the GTX280 - Don't think they'll make it here though :(

@Grimspoon The release is around the corner and proper reviews could be popping up before the cards hits the SA shores next week  I'd wait if I was you - exactly what I'll be doing.
