My comment on the site was removed!

I posted it as I've written it above, and well it has disappeared from the blog, so censorship lives at iBurst, no wonder all the comments are positive....

I dont need an antenna...

I have one though, I have LOS, 1.5 km away up against the hill, it turns out that iBurst did have problems (I’m assuming we aren’t connecting to the same tower) - they eventually woke up late today...

My antenna is fine 18 db gain flat panel perfectly aligned to the Gardens Tower, however one can never be 100% confident its not you're set-up - and now the wind.

Therefore the posting, but thanks anyway.

Internet connectivity and service in general in SA is bad. I feel that with the limited clients and budget that iBurst is putting alot more effort into customer service than its conterparts. Even though they are still not providing the service levels we expect and the levels that should be standard they are trying.

But do complain because without complaints nothing gets done in this country. Try not make it too personal, insults and bad mouthing will get you nowhere. To the point plainly stated facts work best.

Look at the service from telkom the monopoly it is terrible and they don't have a limited budget or cliental base. Perhaps we should have a comparision thread telkom service vs iburst service.

I can only think that you are referring to another company – The above does not reflect my experience, if only it did.

I have done this with no joy, I am frustraded and annoyed, over and above this I have to facilitate some uneducated person that has zero knowledge of the internet insisting I should change my MTU value. Its really not insults it’s the truth, my grandmother knows more about internet protocol / MIMO technology than any of the guys I have had to deal with.

That might be so, however they have a usable service, I can literally only use my connection for two days in a week and I have to pay for this!

Thank you for your advice, point taken, I will refrain from venting my frustration in a public forum.

I see you have already

The thing is everyone here knows about the mtu procedure, and most have had similar problems with iburst in the past.

Try ask vodacom to refresh their proxy server because yahoomail is not working. I guarentee you will not be impressed with their procedure, starting from is the device plugged in what is the serial number creating the 3g connection to changing to gprs to clearing the cache again blah blah

...
2days later
blah blah
....
And then the proxy refreshes and it works (because the time delay was long enough and it did it automatically)

Week down the line the same problem again. Starting from the same starting point procedure.

You don't know what frustration is!

Telkom ADSL can be even worse than iburst I have seen it, speeds of 32kbits/s on a 512 line and sometimes days of zero connectivity. (where pinging any website will time out all the time but it says you are connected and the line is sync)

That's the big problem in South Africa : get any service, be it Multichoice, SABC, MTN, Vodacom, CellC, Insurance, Banks, Telkom, etc. - they're quick to get you as a customer and everything is hunky-dory.

But as soon as something goes wrong.... - you're in a world of pain.

Frustration...

It goes over my head, far far beyond me.

I can’t think how this can happen – should I offer a service to a client of mine and not deliver they will tell me to get lost, putting it mildly – unfortunately I don’t have the option of DSL so I’m stuck with iBurst.

I’m not asking for much, all I am asking is a reliable service for the R 850 I’m paying them a month. I do not abuse the service, I use it for work and I am dependent on it, but lately I have to burn CD’s get into my car and deliver it to my clients, they laugh at me!

Please can’t the CEO of iBurst read this and appoint someone that can “fix” iBurst.

Look dude, I dont think you can just call this iBurst's service. Sure it sucks that it doesnt work for you, and it is a problem on there side, but its not the norm. There is someone else on the same tower as you and he is fine. You have a great connection and your speeds show it, but you say you can only be connected for a day or two, or the that the speeds dont last. Now this is weird, I have a k4k connection, but its actually very stable, its doesnt get totally degraded. Infact it hardly ever gets degraded.

There has to be some solution for your problem. Why dont you try disconnecting that antenna just for a while and see if it helps, you say you dont need it. And I've personally never trusted those directional things, what if its just getting blown off center or something. Okay not likely, you probably shouldnt even bother. Are you shure your modem is good too? They can break kind of...

About the support thing, why not give Ed a call or drop him a email, he realyl is pretty dedicated. Just going and putting a bunch of angry ravings on his support blog when he's never heard of you doesnt help. And neither does phoning the normal support guys for something that is obviously a technical problem. You sould know that by now, so either ask to speak to second level suport or just insist that someone come to your house to check it, they seem to do that very often.

EDIT: I just read your post on his blog.. and your getting something wrong, No Wire arent their technical support. They are their own technical support. No Wire is simply a reseller, you cant blame iBurst for their performance. AT least try iBurst's guys and especially Ed now that he is promising so much, before you bash them to all hell :D

And they never delted your message, its just there twice now.

Hi there EHV

I'm frustrated cause, I have tried evening you have suggested and far more, when I disconnect my directional antenna it signal hops between every other signal from the CBD to Table View - I'm up against the mountain.

As for the modem I have three, from the oldest to the most recent all with the latest firmware, same issue, with the Gardens tower, I have even tried one from my reseller. The issue is the transmission from the tower. I have had two different resellers, "technical experts" here about 5 times, all in agreement that my settings is as it should be. After they attend to the tower, it’s fine for a few days, then another issue, its been going on for at least 5 weeks. You try working with such a connection - you are in the middle of transmitting or receiving a communication that is vital, and it dies on you.

As for the support, I have spoken to countless, cant remember how many second level support ppl, with no luck each time they send someone that knows less than the previous guy and try to find fault with my set-up, in the end they acknowledge it's not my set-up.

But thanks, I can PM you if you would like to see their reports and my list of emails to them or even a copy of my Telkom phone records how many times I have called them and how long I've spent on the phone with them - its scary.

As I have said I've tried everything I can possibly think of - I would appreciate it if they call me back when they said they would. At least tell me there is something wrong and it is expected to be fixed by a certain date or not at all - at least I can give up on them, use the UTD as a doorstop, and revert to copying data on CD’s.

I am now exhausted of this issue and discussing it, thanks for your positive suggestions though – I just had enough of them.

I love iBurst :)

My connection never drops, I never need to phone the technical support. I average 600 which is enough for me.....

I just want more speed and bandwidth now....
