Ok Ok So who Hates Iburst?

For my part R599.00 / month = avg 98kbps (download)

I think ISDN might even work out cheaper (as well as faster)

HAHAHAH.. well then why the hell do you have Iburst if you have such a crap connection? You arent on the contract (your monthly rate says so right?) then cancel. Get ADSL or ISDN.

And you cant even get to a DNS site.. oh no.

Seriously, if I got 98kb most of the time Id much rather be on ADSL.

ADSL is not available to everyone, and ISDN wouldn't be affordable if one needs a 24 hour connection.

Well of course not ISDN.. but if you have Iburst can you really not get ADSL? Im shure he can.

If he cant.. well maby Sentech or just not have broadband.. im shure dial up is fine if you are wasting R600pm on 98kb access.

Dial-up still doesn't solve the issue of needing 24 hour access at a flat rate. He feels that if he's paying R600p/m for 1024 kbps access then he's entitled to it, in which case I would agree with him.

Well he isnt. Hes paying for a best effort, up to 1024kb service. None of us get 1024kb regularly, even during the day. It depends on signal quality, he obviously has a really crap signal if he gets thse kinds of speeds, no one with a decent Iburst connections averages under 100kb.

He probably needs an antenna or someone to check his connection. Otherwise he should move on. Get a cheap WISP or that new sattelite connection if you can.

I was very pissed off about Iburst when i started, but now it's getting better for me. so yeah, even with my -88 signal i don't hate iburst mainly coz there's not much better out there (considering i can't pay more than my monthly fee - adsl would be too expensive).

Its true, I'm in a crappy reception area (Crowthorne in Midrand), and have no direct line of sight to any tower. I do have an aerial thats co-mounted the on a TV aerial pole on top of a double story house. The best connection is to Kyalami. UtTraceStar rates this connection as an 8 (give or take).

In terms of DSL, which at 384 kbs is equivalent cost and faster access, I have several issues. One is TELSCUM is the provider. Two is my local exchange did not have enough ports to connect me when I wanted to switch from dial-up (about a year ago), and I got a lead time of "about 6 months" before I could get the access; I guess refer TELSCUM :). Three is DSL works through copper, and the lightning in this area is MEAN. During my dial-up days I lost an average of two modems a year (through surge protectors), and once had the spike jump from the dial-up box via lan & cook the whole network. Four is I have forked 2800 on a modem, and thats going to burn my bum if I switch.

Sentech is out (no coverage), and the cell companies are ridiculously expensive.

I guess that leaves iBurst.

Even at 100kbs, an always on connection can shunt 30gB of data over a month, so I guess my 3 gig cap can (and sometimes does) get hurt.

The answer is as HighFlyer posted ALWAYS ON. Nevertheless, it still rankles!!!

Iburts aint that bad

i have been using mywireless for about a year and let me tell you it is sooo bad...dsl is far better but as for Iburst no complaint..i could go into a deep discusion and show you graphs and **** but rather just take my word Telkom is to expensive and shoddy service, Mywireless is just a pain in the @ss, Iburst is great through-put at a low price.Lets just say i know what im talkin bout ;)

Well its kind of changed a bit now.

Sorry DDT, I geuss it makes sense for you.. sort of. Just hope you get a new tower soon, you will be very happy trust me.

I hate iBurst

Can't get DSL in my area, not that I want to support Telkom but at this stage I'll support anyone to get away from iBurst.

Why?
1. I go mad when I phone the iBurst call centre - what a bunch of incompetent idiots, the worst call centre I have ever had to call.
2. Their technical support company No Wire is twice as bad, it figures.
3. The service is crappy, yeah I do get 1 Mbps but hell it only lasts a second.
4. Every week – no exaggeration here, there is an issue with connectivity in the CBD.
5. It takes them a week before enough ppl have complained before they realise something is wrong.

I can go on, but I’m getting annoyed just thinking that I’m paying these idiots, kinda makes me one too…

Please someone give us an alternative to this sh*&!
