I downloaded Ubuntu 9.04 last night set up on a VM and ran the installation
all looks good and stuff but then after all the extras i downloaded i was sitting with a system i got no use for ???

Where is the fancy task bar ?? where is the Fusion to make the desktop look cool, where is the interaction ive seen on other websites ??

Now wonddering as im a N00B at linux is this the best version there is ??

Would like to get to learn it but at the end of the day i have no use for it ??
other than web surfing ??

What do you guys run ?? is there a version out there just for N00B linux users ?

You installed it in a VM.

VM's does not provide direct access to graphics cards (yet).

You can also run Ubuntu off the CD as it's also a live CD and doesn't need installing on your PC.

Yes, as The_Librarian says, you are running a VM. Rather run it off a LiveCD to test it out, and then install it if you like you you see.

oh wow ok ... dam never knew that lol thanks guys ;)

is there any other distro of linux that you guys think is better than this ? something flashy like the Mac desktop 9all the bells and whistles )

thinking of making my machine multi boot then put a copy of linux and keep my XP ??
what do you think ?

Try the openSUSE live CD as a Linux starter & then move on to Ubuntu etc when you get the hang of things - the "bling" you are looking will need a little tinkering.

lol

what do you guys use Ubuntu for ?? so the Bling is there just need to tweak it ???

Bookmark that, do what it says and in one hour your desktop will be better than any OSx could wish for.
:)

I use Gentoo, and no, do not even download it, I can guarantee that you will be pulling all your hair out in 30min flat.
I use Linux for gaming (alien arena, nexuiz - have a look in your Ubuntu repositories, there should be a very long list of games to try out), video editing (kino, cinelerra, dvdauthor), audio editing (audacity), movies (smplayer, vlc), office work (open office) and anything net related.

1.Customize the appearance of Ubuntu (wallpaper, theme, fonts, dockbars, etc.)
2.Run Update Manager.
3.Install Flash, Java, Windows Media Codecs and MS fonts with just 4 clicks!
4.Install Compiz Fusion Advanced Settings Manager with one more click.
5.Install WINE with one more click and use it to run Windows based software.
6.Reveal Archive Manager in the Accessories menu and use it to create zip archives.
7.Install the libdvdcss2 decoder so you can watch DVD’s.
8.Install Skype from a *.deb file.
9.Install Google Earth using Terminal.
10.Install Virtualbox.

Is that it?

I will use Linux to run development training packages. LOL.

wow you guys are sharp at this hey ?? cool

do you think the multi boot on an XP machine is good enough for Ubuntu ??

like a chop i put it in VMware :(

will this work with 9.04 ?

Yes.

The link does say what to do after you install ubuntu linux.

It has a few things out the box, open office, gimp, etc...

Most of it, if not all of it will, yes. At most there will only have been a smallish change here and there, but you should be able to figure it out easily.

with Linux, google can answer all ... :D
just google little padawan.

This is true. Even copy-and-pasting an error message into the search field can help sometimes. I had an issue with PHP on my localhost XAMPP installation, and a search of the various forums brought up nothing. So out of desperation copy-and-pasted the error message, and the first hit had the solution!.
