Ok so I'm basically ready to get my system, I'm going down to JHB for the 1st half of April so I'll probably buy from PCint and I do have access to the suppliers, don't have prices though. My budget is about R15k, I already have a screen, speakers and a OS. I'll need everything else though, case, psu, gfx card, keyboard, mouse etc. The pc will be used mostly for gaming and day to day tasks as well as ripping some dvd's.

So far I've come up with 2 systems, I'm not brand conscious but want the best for what I'm paying. It would also be better to get newer technology so I'll have to upgrade less next time.

SYSTEM 1
CPU: Q9550 = 3267.24
MOBO: P5Q = 1754.46
CASE: CM690 = 897
GFX: 4870 1GB = 3448.5
RAM: 4GB GSKILL = 1222.5
KEYBOARD: LOGITECH MEDIA = 174.42
MOUSE: RAZOR DIAMOND BACK = 560.88
HDD: 1TB = 1353.18
PSU: 650W CM TRU POWER = 1122.9
DVD: = 256.5

TOTAL = 14057.58

SYSTEM 2
CPU: I7 920 = 3646.86
MOBO: GA-X58-UD3R = 3247.7
CASE: CM690 = 897
GFX: 4870 1GB = 3448.5
RAM: DDR3 6GB = 1607.49
KEYBOARD: LOGITECH MEDIA = 174.42
MOUSE: RAZOR DIAMOND BACK = 560.88
HDD: 1TB = 1353.18
PSU: 650W CM TRU POWER = 1122.9
DVD: = 256.5

TOTAL = 16434.56

Any help/advice would be appreciated, I'm not stuck on anyone of those systems, I wouldn't mind changing any of the parts, you are the people who know :p :D

Thanks in advance

I rate SYSTEM 2, FTW or you could also consider the AMD Phenom 940 as SYSTEM 3, not an AMD fanboy, Intel :) Fanboy, but some one could make one for you.

if you do take system 2 make sure you use a 64bit OS...

But then again if i had that kinda cash i'd buy myself a little apple lol :)

PSU: 650W CM TRU POWER = 1122.9

less. Get 800watts +. Incase you do abit of upgrades.

and option 2 seems good

650w is plenty for that system, more would only really be required if OP was to Crossfire.

Definately option 2. But what would you need 6 Gigs of ram for?

+1 for system 2. He can't install 4GB on system 2, since Core i7 uses triple-channel memory. So the closest he can get to that is 6GB (to the OP - feel free to correct me :))

Have you taken a look at Cyberdyne's pricing? They might have some components at a better price, and since you're going to be in Joburg you can collect.

Unless you are going to overclock the Q9550 is the better buy.

As for psu take the Antec neo he 550watt or the corsair 550. Unless you're gonna run two graphics cards. In which case take the 650 corsair.

There's a 750 corsair too if you wanna really play it safe. Might actually be better to get it anyway considering the price difference between the 650 and 750 is so small.

Then definitely get the corsair TX750W, even the TX650W should be able to handle crossfire quite easily...just depends on which one your budget allows.

Oh and +1 for system 2 :)

So the CM 650W not so good?

It's plenty for both systems. I would actually just go for the Extreme Power version, think it's cheaper and they're great.

I hope by the time [if] you Crossfire it will give more than a ±30% in performance. :p In a years time there will probably be a single card that rapes 4870 in Crossfire for around the same price as another 4870 [currently].
