In leopard - ~/username/downloads/
Tiger is /Library/packages iirc

Thanks - thats where I looked but can't seem to find them there - will look again, maybe I missed them.

Leopard BTW.

Spotlight Downloads and click on the Folder that comes in the search,

it will take you to the directory.

I think he selected the 'install and keep package' option.

Yes I did that - and I used spotlight and it did not report the folder at all hense my question. Weired!!

When update came up, it did report that the file is already downloaded and wanted to install - maybe that was the problem.

Which update is it? You can always try searching for the file itself.

Old update packages

Along this vein, do I need to keep install packages? I've got 1.6 GB lock up in install packages. Can those be deleted without reprisal?

You're only going to need them if you do a reinstall. Maybe burn them to a dvd otherwise the worst that can happen is you just download them again if you ever need them.
