First of all which version of Windows are you running?
Second do you have any startup disable apps installed on your PC.
Thirdly have you ever manually edited the startup programs.
Fourth have you scanned for Viruses, Adaware and Spyware?
Fifth how long have you had this problem (is it new???)

running winxp service pack 2, I don't think i have disable startup programs... well all my other things still start up.. just anti-virus, anti-spy that don't start up anymore. I have MANUALY put them in and still something takes them out. I have scanned for everything using NOD32, AD-aware, Spybot, Windows defender. They all found Nothing. And yes been a 4day problem now.

Did you scan in safe mode?

Chances are you might have a trojan that's disabling your antivirus programs.

Make sure the antivirus stuff is up to date.

Ensure system restore is disabled before rebooting into safe mode.

Can you upload a screenshot of all the services your PC has running?

Try start->run->type msconfig, click on the startup tab, and check if all your AV like apps are ticked. If not, tick them, apply, reboot. see what happens. Strangely enough, it sounds like virus-like activity to me

No i used tuneup to add them in my startup. I forgot bout the safe mode thing i'll try that. ALL my antivirus etc are fully up to date. Please help. hope the link works...

it's a local service. if you want to disable services, go to start -> run, type "services.msc" and then from there you can enable, disable, start and stop services.

but wot does it do? can i just stop it?

Linky

The process alg.exe or Application Layer Gateway Service is associated to the Microsoft Windows Operating System. The alg.exe process is a component of Internet Connection Sharing and Internet Connection Firewall. Upon its execution, alg.exe also calls a host of DLLs, Exes and other essential processes for the initialization of the Microsoft Windows Internet Connection and Internet Connection Firewall.

The alg.exe process is a valid Windows system process that runs in the background. The alg.exe file is a trusted file from Microsoft. This process listens to or sends data on open ports to the Local Network or via the Internet. The process alg.exe can also hide itself, record inputs and monitor applications.

The alg.exe file has a known file size of 44544 bytes and is located in directory C:\ Windows\ System32.

some sites mention that viruses/worms/malware sometimes are disguised as this file. check this link for more info

all i basically want is for my anti-virus etc to stay in the startup... even in all the settings i checked they all say start with windows... and they don't... so something must be buggin

then your best bet is to start up in safe mode and run your antivirus apps there to remove it. then start up normally and see if it worked.
