Hi all,

I sit in a bit of a situation and I'd like some advice;

Some of you remember this post that I posted in the classifieds: http://mybroadband.co.za/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/8439

Anyways, I found a buyer, except, not via that classified ad, it was via Gumtree.

Story goes like this;

I took the motherboard and swopped it with the gaming motherboard that I won, maybe some of you will remember that too.

Anyways, I packaged the drive, and got ready for someone to buy it.
I got a guy from PTA who was keen, so I packed it, ready to send to him, but the same day, this guy in question from Gumtree phoned and wanted the MB.

I decided to give it to the guy in CPT because it would make life easier (not having to goto post office)

Anyways, (I sold it Monday) Today; the guy phones me and tells me the motherboard is FUBAR.

Now, this is completely weird because those here who know me, know I would never screw someone over by selling him a FUBAR motherboard, hell, I even invited the guy to come to my place to fetch the motherboard.

Long story short, he wants his money back, I refuse to give it back because I know I gave him a working motherboard.

But I don't want this deal to just die there, I've suggested that he take it back to the suppliers but he is very very reluctant too.

He brags about how he is a technician and that I am a idiot who sold him a FUBAR motherboard (scammed him) and blah blah blah.

Anyways, I've spoken to the person who I think (I really can't actually remember! haha) I bought the motherboard for (basically for information on who the supplier is) and I'm almost 100% sure the motherboard is under warranty.

My plan is to find out the info, get him to take the motherboard back to the supplier and have it swopped out - or maybe someone here knows who the supplier is?

I've been told the following (just as a idea) that this guy has messed the motherboard up, and won't take it back himself because he knows the suppliers will not swop it out because he damaged it but instead, he wants me to do it (and give his money back) so I get the bad news and then I'm stuck with a FUBAR motherboard.

I feel bad that the motherboard is buggered (if it is) but at the same time, I know that it was working 100% (for days and days and days on end) and then I take it out of my machine, he takes it and in 2/3 days from the sale, the motherboard is buggered - but I still want to help him by getting him to swop the motherboard out.

Comments?
Suggestions?
Thoughts?

Maybe he had a exact copy of it but faulty... and he just switched motherboards and now claims that the faulty motherboard was the one you gave him

Maybe, but what's the chances of that happening... I'm guessing it could happen, but... I dunno.

Can someone tell me what the warranty is on Intel boards?

I think I got it around December 2007ish... because that's when I posted the following ad: http://mybroadband.co.za/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/3211

Knowing myself, I would've got the NEW motherboard before selling the old one.

I'm def sure it's not just 1 year warranty - It's Intel... 3 years would probably be it.

Could you possibly have damaged it when taking it out?

Sure it was working before you took it out the box but you never know. It's never a good idea to sell a motherboard without making sure its tested before you sell it. Anyways you should be doing your best to get it get fixed or replaced because as far as i can tell you are not sure if the mobo was working after you took it out.

Also, he asked me if the Quad Core CPU would work in the motherboard I sold him, I told him honestly that I'm not sure.

He says he bought both that CPU and a Celeron CPU and both don't work.

Of cause, this goes along with what I said earlier that "quote" he was a technician way before I was even born "unquote" and hey, they NEVER make mistakes!

Maybe... but this is why I took it to someone else to have the boards swopped, the guy who basically always deals with my PC, I took it to him, he did the swopping out and I know he wouldn't damage the board.

But having said that, let's also assume maybe the guy did, the buyer should try meet me half way and want to take the motherboard to suppliers and have it swopped out - granted it's a pain in the ass, but at the same time, maybe he is at fault - he refuses to admit any fault (I could vent the same argument here, that the guy I took it too, wouldn't damage the board because he is also a techy... and a damn good one at that).

PS: The buyer did ask me about the warranty, to which I told him, it should be under warranty according to my knowledge.

I've tried my best to explain that I want to help him.
He just attacks and attacks and attacks.

Yea well then if he is like that tell him to go get stuffed :).

I was heading for that at one point during the call... but it's not my character to do that.

Ahhhh like it when its simplified :p

I was told the same thing but like I said above, it's not my character.
If I can help it at least get swopped out, why not...

So... can anyone tell me the warranty on Intel motherboards? ;)

Could you not give his money back, take the board back, get it swapped out yourself, and then resell?

Well, firstly, I don't have the cash anymore... I didn't buy the PSU, instead, I paid a debt off (Credit card if you must know) so that's the 1 problem.

GF says she'll give me the money if I want to get this guy off my back.

But at the same time, I don't want to do that... I know I sold this guy a working motherboard (so I don't want to lose out) and I am so sure he buggered it up or doesn't what it anymore, because maybe he scored a deal somewhere else.

Having said that, I see on this board, the warranty is 3 years (http://www.take2.co.za/electronics-intel-skulltrail-d5400xs-motherboard-dual-socket-771-3424539.html)

Maybe that's standard?

Eish. Then maybe he finds this thread, figures out gdiza reveals [a fair amount of] personal information in public on the Internet... Bad things could happen.
