I have this older Peplink mobile router from around 2012 with only 3G and 2G support. It takes the standard sized sim.

Now, a nano sim with adaptors don't work, the dashboard says no sim detected but it detects and displays the IMEI info but cannot make a data connection. I managed to find an old Vodacom 32k standard sized sim in an old phone. The modem had no trouble with this sim and quickly connected to the Vodacom network. I could not check the data connection as it had no data but I am sure it would have worked...all the indicators were green for a cellular connection.

So what is the difference between an old 32k sim and a new nano sim that the hardware could not use the nano sim?

Thanks

The new one probably has a different size allocation.

A mobile WiFi hotspot will probably work better than this old modem.

That is odd. I always thought Sims were backwards compatible. Are you sure it's seated well in the adapter?

In terms of speeds undoubtedly make a hot spot.

The sim might be backwards compatible, but the device not. The device might reject the sim due to being a different size.
