Hi Guys,

A friend of mine recently bought a whole lot of old computers, screens, ups, printers and some tape drives from a company wanting to clean out their store room.

The computers that I could fix he is planning to sell.

Do you guys know of any other means of generating money out of the other components listed above?

Sell it or use it. Thats about the only way. Or give them away. Like give a ups away to me :p

What kind of specs are you looking at? And who are you looking to sell to?

Some guys buy up old, refurbished computers for use in systems like POS.

And what kind of prices are you looking to sell for? Second hand PCs older than a few years are generally not profitable to sell

I know it is a swear word... but selling components on Bid or Buy?

I could do with some for my mom's old PC but I am in Durbs...

Put it on the classifieds - there are always people looking for old hardware for various reasons. Just don't expect to get a whole lot for it :o

Ide Be willing to take one or two Hdds off from you, i Need some extra space...Just lemme know sizes etc and ille make you an offer

The drives range from 10gig to 40gig if I can remember correctly. But I would have to check with him if there are still any available.

1. put 5 lbs scrap in to a heatable container and add 1 quart of HNO3 (nitric acid) 70% tech grade is ok.
2. let acid work until there is no more reaction.
3. add 3 quarts of HCL (hydrochloric acid) muriatic is ok.
4. let set and work until there is no solid metallics left.
5. add the leach solution to clean warm water, and add 1 to 1 1/2 pound of urea to solution and stir to help dissolve, this kills and neutralizes the nitric acid.
6. add 1 and 1/2 teaspoon of sodium sulfite for each ounce of total metals dissolved, (not just gold). the gold will filter out as brown particles that look like mud, this is 999.3 fine gold. filter wash and dry then melt.

Yip safety would be paramount. But really old computer equipment for eg a 80's motherboard can deliver as much as 20g of gold and various amounts of other metals. At the current gold price that is a good return.

But where would a person sell the recouped (Spelling) metals?
