Old DOS games poster

Quite amazing how all of these games can now be played all at once a thousand times over at the same time on a pc if you want to, amazing how powerful computers have become, also amazing how shite games of today are in comparison.

Not to mention the sort of contortions programmers had to go through in those days to get the most out of PC speakers and EGA colour schemes - some of those games required serious skill and ingenuity.

Yeah not the actual coding, but getting something sounding like something with a square wave 2 voice device. Then to get something looking like something using 4 colours with CGA, or maybe amazing with 16 colours EGA.

True, and it really feels like they were out to make a game as best the game can be made, not only the developers but the companies, now, its just a cash grab and developer whipping.

Remember the first time I saw a VGA game, jaw dropping time, and then the first games with Ad Lib sound then Sound Blaster effects....too cool :D

The irony for me is that the poster is the size of around 4 stiffies.

My stepdad knew some rich kid who lived out here in Rivonia, we drove to his house and in 1989 had a Roland MT-32, to hear music through that was like woo. Didn't even come close when a friend had an AWE32 a few years later, the MT-32 just was amazing.
I went through all the phases of gaming in the 80s, where consoles were actually superior for quite sometime, though simulators were cool on the PC. Then in 1992 when I was bought my own PC man things were awesome, Star Control 2 made me miss a few days of school :-). Then Dune II with the intro fully voiced, ooooh my.

Same here, I think Dune 2 was one of the first things I fired up with my new Sound Blaster (the one I did a paper route to be able to afford :X3:). That and listening to all the over the top Sound Blaster effects from Wolfenstein (Door opening)
