Following this thread posted on Slashdot http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/05/16/1332249, I was wondering is anyone can help me withh some old functional hardware or laptops for free. I have access to a number of people who have a need for computer hardware, but cannot afford it. Putting a lean Linux on these would make it the ideal working environment.
The specific case that I am thinking of is the son of a friend of mine. She is a single parent (a widow) and he is 13 years old and is showing a great interest in computers. Being an electronic engineer, I decided to teach him to program. There are some great FOSS projects (such as Scratch http://scratch.mit.edu/) for this, but I do not have the funds to get him a new system.
Can anyone help or point me in a direction. Any donations would be treated as donation and will be for non-profit means.
